your thoughts on Camden?

I like Cameron for a boy but don't like how it's unisex.  I know Camden is a city in the US, but other than that what are your thoughts on this name?

  • It is?  Darn it.  On babynamesworld it came up as boy.

  • My best friend plans to use this for her next baby whether it is a boy or a girl. She wants it to be Camden for a boy or Camdyn for a girl, I prefer Camden for either but I only like it because it was her dear very sweet grandpa's last name. If it wasn't for that significance I would only like it for a boy. However, Cami is an adorable nn.

  • I always think of the fictional college from the Bret Easton Ellis novels, but I realize that is pretty obscure.

  • I prefer Cameron. The only girls with that name i've seen are with K's (ex. Kamryn).
  • Camden is not even in the top 1000 for girls so I fail to see how it is unisex. I don't like it for a boy either and would just stick with Cameron.

  • My niece's name is Camden. Even so, it's pretty clearly a boys name if you look at the numbers.

I would still go with Cameron.

  • My mind goes to Camden NJ.  It's not a nice neighborhood.  If I heard this name I would assume boy.

  • I prefer Cameron over Camden, but personally wouldn't use either because unisex names are NMS. I grew up with a girl Cameron, so my first thought is always girl, but recently have known more boy Cameron's. I can't think of any Camden's that I know, probably why I associate it as a LN or place name.

  • Hate it no matter what the spelling or sex.

    Dirty crime filled city...no thanks

  • Camden is a boy's name to me. Camdyn is someone just trying to make it feminine by slapping a Y in there.

It's a crappy US city, even though it's where my grandmother was born. It's...fine. I've heard MUCH worse.

I definitely like Cameron better.  I don't think I had ever even thought/heard of Camden as a name until two celebrities recently used it.  If I saw Cameron on a roster, I would still think boy first even though I realize it is also being used for girls.

  • I put it on our list of names for a boy because I associated it with London (Camden Market).  If the main association, for many people, is a tough NJ town or a baseball field, I may reconsider!  I had never heard of it being a girl's name.
  • Camden is unisex as well

I love Camden for a boy, but then I'm biased since my nephew is named that and has had the name almost 12 years!

  • Camden is a beautiful coastal town in Maine. Also a city full of crime in NJ. Overall, I don't like Camden as a name. Cameron is nms, but I prefer this.

  • It's way too trendy for my taste.  I also don't think it's very masculine sounding.

  • Cameron > Camden
  • I don't love it, but it's not the worst either.

I don't make the NJ association, but in our region, we have an amusement park by that name, so people here tend to associate Camden with old rollercoasters and the like.

Having said that, I do know some babies recently born by the name of Kamden....blah. Not loving it.

  • If you've been to Camden, NJ, I doubt you'd still want to use it.

  • I just have to say that it seems like you've fallen off your game on this one.  Your boys' names are amazing...I absolutely love that you used "Edmund".  And Miles and Asher are so nice and classic.  I would go back to the drawing board and get rid of Cameron and Camden.

I've known a few Camdyn girls, and while I like Cameron, it doesn't seem nearly as good as your first two kids' names.

  • Camden NJ is disgusting and anyone from the Northeast would associate this name with this town.  It is hard to look past it.
