~O) Ahhh.  (Hey, where did my martini and beer glass icons go???)

I've never used them, but the consensus on them seems to be pretty polar.  Some people love them, some people hate them.

  • Not a fan. Yes, they are trim and cute, but that's about it.

-They are unnecessarily complicated. Most diapers have one piece (AIO) or 2 pieces (pockets, AI2s, prefolds/covers). Gdiapers have 3 pieces - pant, pouch and cloth.

-They are expensive. Both in that the individual pieces are expensive and that you have to buy the different sizes as your LO grows.

-They are not very absorbent. These would not be able to be a naptime diaper with us, much less an overnight diaper.

I've used them, but really just don't get the appeal. There are way more versatile and effective options out there for far less money.

  • My baby isn't born yet, but I put a few gdiapers on my registry because I like the disposable flushable option for long day trips. I also think the grandparents may be more open to these than the other types of cloth diapers we are registered for (hoping to try a good variety or prefolds and covers, AIO's, pockets and hybrids).

I read that using prefolds instead of the g cloth can be a less expensive and, for some, better working option. I'm going to try both and see which I like best.

Yes, it's possible to use prefolds in gDiapers, but be aware that the smalls fit newborn prefolds, which may not provide enough absorbency for a baby that fits into size small gPants.

  • Also, babies r us is having a $5 off 10 dollar or more gdiaper purchase the gpants are 2 for 30 dollars there. If you buy a 2-pack, it'll cost you 25 dollars, or 12.50 per diaper. If you have a store near you and can pick them up, it actually ends up costing less than the zulilly sale because you have to pay shipping with zulilly.
  • I'm not a fan AT ALL, they did not work for DD.  She seriously leaked out of every single one we put on her.  UGH.

Anyway... another PSA for the gDiaper lovers... our local Fred Meyer (Kroger in other parts) decided to discontinue, so they are all on clearance for around 50% off right now.  Might be worth peeking into a store around you if you have one!  I actually was tempted to buy a bunch and put them on ebay or something, but thought better of it.  A 2 pack of gPants was $13.50.

  • So I didn't like these with my DS at first — we had a hard time when he was reeealllly little because they just didn't fit well. Also newborn poop.

When he got a little bit older, though, I loved them! And I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on just how "flushable" the inserts really are, and I can tell you, if you follow the instructions *exactly*, with all the ripping and swishing, I thought they were great, and never had a problem.

All of this. We loved them for about a month then the sizing got weird and were digging into LO's thighs. They were all gifted to us. I would not have bought the whole system

  • If you want to try them out, I recommend looking on eBay. After reading all the mixed opinions, I wanted a low-risk way to check them out for myself. I ended up getting a great deal on some gently used Gpants, so if it turns out they're not right for us, it's not like we made a huge investment in them.

  • I am also one of the few on here that really like the gDiapers.  Yes, I did have some leaking issues, but I was bunching them up too much in the groin for her and not creating a seal.  If she leaks now, it is only onto the gPant, and hardly ever onto whatever she is wearing.  The back of the liner is also elastic and I can probably count on one hand how many times she's blown out of the g's as opposed to disposables.

Another reason I like them is that you don't have to change the entire diaper for each change.  For example, I switched between two gPants yesterday and just replaced the inner liner and insert with each change.  With the inner liner being a nylon blend, you can even let that liner dry out between wearings and wear the same liner multiple times a day (if they are only urine soaked).

I second what MynaBird said about e-bay.  I purchased quite a few of my smalls on there for less then retail, and they included inserts and liners with those auctions.

  • I love gdiapers, and am apparently also one of the few that do. My experience using other types of cloth has only been at work (I work in child care). I have had to change outfits on LO's that used other brands of cloth due to leaks far more then the one child that used gdiapers. I currently use them on my LO and almost never have a leak.
  • i used them from newborn and small size. then when we had to buy the larger size, we switched over to a OS pocket diaper. i use the G diaper hemp/cotton inserts inside of the pocket diapers we use (started with fuzzibunz and now have a full collection of alvababy) and that system works just fine for us.

when we used them on her as a newborn/small size, we rarely had blowouts or leaks. and they worked very well for us. plus the travel/disposable inserts were very handy when she was little and pooping/peeing very very frequently, out and about (we have a heavy wetter) we just couldn't afford to buy the mediums then the large, then the extra large. so we went with a OS pocket.

This, exactly. I have some in Small, with both the cloth inserts and the disposables. Before M was born I thought I would like a semi-disposable option for when we travelled which is why I purchased them. I not only find these diapers to be more work than my regular cloth (all three pieces have different wash instructions, plus attaching the white liner...I could go on), but I find the plastic liner gives M a bit of redness, it has never turned into a rash but I'm sure with regular use it would. Travelling with my pockets and AIOs is super simple, so I'm sticking with that moving forward.
