Waking babies to feed at 2 months?

I am blessed to have 2 amazing sleepers.  I earned it because my older boys may have been the worst sleepers ever.  I mentioned to my pediatrician that one of the twins will sleep for between 9 and 11 hours at night.  She said that isnot good and I need to wake them after they have slept for 7 or 8 hours so they don't become hypoglycemic (sp?).  Has anyone else heard this.  I now have to set an alarm and wake them up!

Re: Waking babies to feed at 2 months?

  • I asked my pediatrician this question on Monday.  My boys are only two weeks old (born at 36 weeks) and she said to not let them go longer than 4 hours until they get past their original due date.  She said once we are past that since they are both above their birth weights now, I can let them sleep.  I am also a nurse in this pediatric office and was always under the impression that once they surpass their birth weight you can let them sleep until they wake to eat.  The only reason I can think otherwise is if they were really premature or have other issues.  Maybe give the office a call and just double check?
