stuffy nose?

LO seems to have a stuffy nose, I can hear all the phlegm and sniffles when he breathes. I know it's sort of normal when they're a newbown (leftover fluids from the womb) but this time around it seems so uncomfortable for him. He has no other signs of a cold, but it's got to be making it difficult for him to breathe. He also woke up more in the MOTN than usual.

Anything I could/should do to ease the sniffles? At 11 weeks, is he too young for saline drops?

Re: stuffy nose?

  • Saline drops are just salt water so no, he's not too young.  Put a couple drops in his nose, wait a few minutes, and suck the boogers out.  Using a humidifier helps, too.

  • Our LO (15 weeks) started daycare last Thursday and started what I think is a cold on Saturday.  I spoke with his pedi on Monday.  Saline drops are fine, humidifier is a huge help if you have one.  Pedi also said to feed a bit more to prevent dehydration.  You can also slightly incline one side of your crib mattress to allow for drainage if your little guy isn't too much of a wiggle worm - mine is so it wouldn't work.

  • Saline drops are great. I also took a hot shower and brought ds in bathroom with me so the steam would help loosen everything up. I also read petroleum jelly underneath nostrils will help.

  • My LO hates saline drops, he acts like he's being waterboarded.
