What kind of pacifier?

We've been using Mam pacifiers since they seemed to be the lightest / smallest when we first switched from soothies (DS had a hard time holding soothies in his mouth). He sometimes spits out the pacifier and gets frustrated... or he'll pull it out of his mouth, hold it in his hand, but can't figure out how to get it back into his mouth. I'm wondering if one of the brands that has the ring on the outside would work better for him. What kind do you use? Do you like them?

I have Advent. It has a ring but in my opinion that just makes it easier for him to accidentally knock it out.

edit to add: I do like the ring for ME to carry around in my teeth when my hands are full with him.

  • It's always a fight to get my son to take a pacifier, but he does best with the Nuk.

The only one DD will take is the soothie, I have tried others and she just spits them out.

We use the Avent nighttime pacis also. LO will not take any of the others we've tried.

I agree with ohgrl on the ring being handy for Mom. I often wear her paci as a ring on my finger.

Same here - tried Nuk and Mams with LO and she literally gags.  Not sure how it gags her since it's shorter and wider, but she does!
  • All 3 of my ds's have used nukes. As pp's have said, the ring makes it nice for me to hold on to it, but lo is too young right now for it to matter (he's no where near coordinated enough to control where his paci goes)

  • We have the playtex orthos. DD was never a fan of smoothies or of these. She's just not a fan of pacis.

  • Soothie here too. It's hit or miss if she will take it though. She refused the others that we've tried.

  • LO can only keep the mam ones inside his mouth.

  • Soothie here. We haven't tried anything else yet. My son only liked Nuk

    This exactly.

  • Nuk and mam make LO gag and cough. She likes the gum drop ones.

  • My LO will only take the soothies. I've tried the tiny nuks and she gagged. So I just recently tried the playtex one that is shaped like a nipple but it contours to the mouth like a nuk but she won't take that either. Luckily she seems to want her paci less these days. I think I offer it more often then what she actually wants. I need to break the habit!

  • DD loves her Wubbanub's (Soothie's).  She has gotten to the point where she can push it back in her mouth.

DS has a variety of pacifiers because we got some free, but the ones he favors are Nuks.

  • The avent orthodontic classic soother.
LO seems to take this one without gagging.

  • Used to use soothies, but now LO prefers the 0-3 nuk.
