My DS kind of understands, he knows baby is in mommy's belly and he'll be a big brother. He knows what a baby is since I babysat my infant niece for the last few months. I don't know if he connects the baby in my belly with a baby on the outside though. I'm nervous he's going to have a hard time as he is definitely going through an ornery stage plus everyone has such high expectations for how he'll do since he was so good with his cousin.
My daughter was sitting in the baby seat yesterday. I tried telling her it was for her little sister, but she started getting really upset. Nervous about how she will react when we come home with the baby.
My guy turns 2 the end of this month, if you ask him where the baby is he points to my stomach and if you ask her name he'll tell you but I'm not sure he actually gets what he's saying. He's very much a mama's boy so I'm extremely nervous as to how he will react to seeing me with her. I actually feel bad for him because his world is about to turn upside down. I've shed many tears over this, don't get me wrong this baby was totally planned and I'm looking forward to meeting our baby girl I've just been super emotional about it lately.
DS is over 2.5 yrs old but he doesn't get it. I mean, can any kid really "get" it? I do think when we talk about it he is making progress towards understanding but it's just hard to tell how much he understands.
Cute! When we got out the baby swing DS climbed right in and sat there for a good 10 minutes (just in the seat part, it wasn't put together). I really feel like he has no idea just how much his world is about to be rocked.
When dd2 was born, dd1 was only 13 months. She may or may not have gotten it before she was born. She would kiss my tummy and say 'love you' to it.
Now they are 2.5 and 3.5. They both definitely get it. They talk about her, always remember to kiss her before bed etc. dd1 bumped her head into my stomach the other day and without missing a beat said 'I'm sorry baby' and rubbed my stomach. They are also already arguing about who gets to hold her first and who gets to help change her diaper.
