Twin Interaction

When did your twins begin to interact/notice each other? My b/g twins are 15 weeks old and don't really seem to pay much attention to each other.

Re: Twin Interaction

  • My boys have been very aware of each other from the start.  If I put one to bed, then try to nurse the other, the first baby will cry and scream until his brother is the crib with him.  It's actually a bit of a problem as they will be moving into their own cribs soon.  During tummy time, they will turn towards each other.  They also "talk" to each other constantly.  There is a sing-song series of sounds they make to each other that they won't make for anyone else.

  • Mine are just over 4 months and aside from the occasional glance or smile they don't do too much with/for each other. During TT I put them facing one another but I feel like they're each "fighting their own battle" to keep their heads up that they don't really pay too much attention to one another. I've heard 6-7 months is when they really start to notice one another.

  • I think ours recognized each other around four months and started interacting with each other closer to seven months
  • Thanks for the replies. I feel much better now! We did take a road trip this weekend (their first) and my boy was screaming so we pulled over to check on them and my girl had this look on her face like "hey mom can we get one of those police car sound barriers?" But then she decided to join in on the screaming!

  • Mine first started smiling/cooing at each other between 3 and 4 months....now at 7 months they are definitely interactive. They will look at each other, "talk" to each other, grab each other's faces etc....

  • They've tried to gnaw on each other since they were just a few weeks old, and held hands from about two weeks through four months or so - but I don't know if you can really call either of those intentional interaction. They started doing things like laughing at each other, stealing bottles, touching/grabbing each other's faces, etc around 3 or 4 months.

  • They seemed aware of each other from about a month onwards, but didn't start to really acknowledge each other or interact until at least 4 months, maybe it was 5.

  • Definitely not by 15 weeks, though I would say they were always aware of each other.  Their interaction was directly related to their mobility.  Once they discovered rolling as a means to get from point A to point B they because much more concerned with each other.  They started playing together more when crawling came into the picture.  By the time walking happened they were really interacting with each other and now they are together constantly (playing, pulling hair, torturing...).

  • at 13 months Spencer loves to tackle Sidney.  She is not always a fan.  They just started really interacting a month or so back.  They started by sharing food with each other and it grew from there.  Now they play and lov to chatter in their cribs.  Day care says that if one wakes up first, he/she will pat the other's crib to wake the other up.

And with the delivery trifecra of one twin vaginal, one c-section with general anesthesia for twin B, Spencer and Sidney joined us at 35 weeks exactly on June 18.

  • At 3 days old DD2 tried to latch onto DD1's head when I was holding them together in the SCN. They really started noticing each other around 8ish months. Now they will look at each other in the ends of the crib, crawl over each other and steal toys from each other. Oh they "talk" to each other too. So cute!

  • Mine barely knew the other existed until about 6 months, and they didn't really start interacting until 10 months.
