Bumpers

repost from birth month

LO officially hit his head on the crib last night. I am considering putting bumpers in my crib but they totally freak me out. Does anyone use the regular bumpers? I see a lot of people I am friends with post pictures on facebook and you can see regular bumpers in the crib. I know it is recommended to not have anything in the crib, and I would love to stick with that, but I feel bad whenever LO bumps his head or his leg or arm gets stuck! I also saw the previous post about mesh bumpers too.

Does anyone use regular bumpers?
Any suggestions beside the use the bumpers?

Re: Bumpers

  • I used breathable bumpers with Ds2 and will use them again if I think I need to. I def wouldn't use regular bumpers

  • We use a regular bumper and have for about 2 months. No issues at our house. We also have to use them because my lo wears leg braces. It's the only way to keep him from possibly hurting himself from getting his braces stuck or hitting them hard. I know this is not the popular choice but it works for us.
  • I used the traditional bumpers with my dd 21 years ago. Honestly, they didnt provide much for cushioning against bumps and they were a PITA to have on the crib while changing sheets. I took them off before dd was 2 months old. I dont remember using them with ds1 and I definately have not used them with ds2.

  • We used bumpers for DS#1, but never got any for DS#2.  #2 recently started sleeping in his crib all night (instead of some time in PNP in our room), and he was constantly waking with his arms and/or legs hanging out the side.  At first I was about to put regular bumpers in, but then thinking about how often he is scooting himself right up to the edge, I thought twice, and got the mesh crib liner instead.  It seems to be working great.  I find him at the edge of his crib quite a bit, but he is not waking up (and not suffocating).

  • I use regular bumpers. My lo got her legs stuck a couple of times.. Flame away but I'm not worried.

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • We use mesh bumpers
  • No bumpers.  My son wakes up with his arms or legs sticking out but bumpers are not worth the risk for me.

Little Sister is on the way!
  • No bumper here. I wouldn't have a problem with a mesh bumper, it's breathable enough (it is mesh, after all) and it keeps limbs on the inside. His ped recommended them if we really wanted to use bumpers, but we decided against it.

  • Breathable Bumpers for us.  No way of suffocating and limbs don't get stuck.

  • We use the breathable bumpers with no issues.
  • We have regular bumpers on at this point.  LO is not moving at night. When she starts moving around in her crib I may re-think them but for now she is fine.

  • You know, last night I went in and checked on my LO. He sleeps on his stomach now because that is more comfortable. He ended up with his face against the slats and his arm out and in between the slats. Had there been a bumper there his face would have been right in it... I've been thinking all morning that I'd rather he have a hurt arm or leg than the unthinkable. Just my thoughts now...
