Rant-sleep regression

I am losing my mind! Ds is 18 months old and having a serious sleep regression issue. He will only fall asleep with me or dh and then go In his crib, and wakes up between 10 and 11 screaming to come to bed with us. Then we spend the remainder of the night fighting with him because he's not sleeping well, can't get comfortable and NOONE is sleeping at that point. So tonight. I've had it. I have decided that the cry it out method needs to come back. It's been 18 minutes and no end in sight. He used to sleep 8-8 and now it's barely at all. Today we was up at 620, only napped for 45 minutes and I decided we would play outside, he ate a huge dinner, pooped and bathed and he's still being relentless. Sorry for the rant, but I'm pregnant again and completely exhausted. I need help and advice ASAP!

Re: Rant-sleep regression

  • There is a big 18m sleep regression.

I don't quite remember ours, but with all sleep regressions, I just remain as consistent as possible, continue to follow our regular routine and ride it out.

What type of CIO are you using?  We did straight up CIO with no check ins and stuck to it.  After 3 or 4 days he was sleeping fine.

This is what we are doing. The times we've done the check in at 5 minutes and then extend it to 10 minutes etc has made it so much worse and so we decided to let him ride it out on his own. Of course I feel like in abandoning him. But I will tell you it's 8:30 am here and he just woke up! It worked!

  • I'm going through the same thing rightnow...Pregnant and all lol!  I have a hard time letting him cry it out :/.  I think maybe its a growth spurt because he grabs him legs and wriggles around while screaming...I've given him tylenol a couple timesbecause I feel like he might be having growing pains. I dont give it to him often but if a warm bath and a sippy of milk doesnt help- tylenol works!
  • I am so here with you, mama! Totally going through the same thing. I think we may have to bite the bullet and let him CIO. For some reason it seems harder now, when he is saying, "MAMA"!

  • My DD is doing this too - she gets all stiff the minute we start to even stand up to put her in her crib after story and song. It IS harder now when they can say Mama and do more than just cry (screech, scream, yell, bang on the crib)! And I'm the only one my DD wants. I'm trying to be consistent as well - and we're doing CIO as well. My husband is the one that does checks and even now, at day 3 she's STILL crying for at least an hour. My pedi told me that as long as we've given her Tylenol or Motrin for teething and are sure she's fine otherwise, to just go ahead keep up the routine and ride it out as well as we can.

Today, however, it's the second time so far she's trying to skip a nap. I ended up totally ignoring all advice and letting her fall asleep on my bed. I am trying not to feel like a failure because I really want her to nap well so hopefully she won't be so overtired at night. It's INSANE. 19 months (well, 18-19 months) just might kill me. And I'm pregnant too. Thank goodness I'm not alone. Good luck!!!!!!!

Anyone know if warm milk helps - I'd be GLAD to add that to our nighttime routine.
  • I'm a believer in the CIO method! We started 2 nights ago and the first night he cried for 33 minutes and woke up once, last night he only cried for 10 minutes and slept all night! Be stern ladies and it will pay off
  • I thought we were going to try CIO last night but my husband went and picked him up within a minute. :-/
  • He did still only wake up once though. We left the white noise machine on the second time though. Going to leave it on all night tonight!!

  • Thanks ladies! It's good to know I'm not the only one here losing her mind at times! Although I am super happy to report that tonight(night 3) he fell asleep in less than 10 minutes! It's gradually decreasing and he's not nearly as upset-I'm so relieved!!!! Plus he's sleeping all night so I am a happier pregnant momma too ;)
