Adoption

Gift for adoption

Hi everyone,
I don't usually post here but dh's cousin (admittedly who we don't know well as he is a step cousin) has very recently adopted a little girl. She is their first child. She will be 3 in December.

Cousins's parents will be visiting in2 weeks to meet her and they have all asked us to drive up to meet their little girl. Dh is very very close to his uncle (cousin's stepfather) so we are going.

I'm very happy for them because this has been a long journey. They had about 8 hours of prep before the little girl came to them (via state adoption). So she did not have a shower and she has no registry. I'd like to get something though, even if it is for the dd. DS is her age and my thought was to get her 2 or 3 of the books he enjoys a lot.

What do you think? Is there a better gift to help them celebrate? My budget would be less than $30 bc we really do not know them well, mostly we know them through dh's uncle and step aunt.

Sorry this is so long...

Re: Gift for adoption

  • I'd maybe get something for the whole family--restaurant GC, movie night gift package, etc. Books are a great option as well

  • Books are my favorite gift to get for DS since he has too many toys but that may not be the case for her. I would either get her a book and an inexpensive outfit or maybe go on groupon and see if they have something for a family friendly outing like passes to the zoo or children's museum.

  • I love the idea of giving books!  Honestly, since we don't know the exact age or gender of our child yet, it's hard for me to tell people who want to be generous and give us gifts.  So I just tell them kids books.  I LOVE to read and I want to foster that in our children. :)
I'm a dance studio owner, writer, cat mommy, and adventuress who is married to the man of her dreams. My husband and I have had a long-time dream to adopt and it's happening in a way that we didn't quite anticipate. But, like any move of God, it's turning out way better than we expected. We'd love for you to follow our story at www.kirstenkline.com!
  • I love the groupon idea. I would try to find something local that they can do together as a family. Or maybe even like a gift card to build a bear or something to promote fun and bonding as a family. I personally feel that life experiances with family outweighs another toy for the shelf any day ;)
