Swing/bouncer/rocker/bassinet?? so many baby items

so overwhelming!!! we got a bouncer on our baby shower and we have a crib.
For the longest time thought on getting my little snug bunny due to must have reviews and recs. But just realized we want to have our baby sleep with us the first 3 months and now need something small to put in the room.

Now we don't want to be buying all these gadgets and then have them laying around since after 8 months you can't use them at all. We also don't want to spend an additional $ 200.

Saw this but not sure about it..

any one have experience with it? at least i can have 2 for the price of one and get the bassinet or rocker for co sleeping. Reviews are mixed.

Thanks

  • I hated the idea of buying multiple "seats" like the rnp, swing, bouncy, bassinet, etc.  but we ended up using them all. FWIW, I LOVE the snug bunny swing.  It is amazing and the ONLY place my baby with colic would sleep (AKA: it was my lifesaver!).  True, he only used it until about 6 months but it was invaluable.  In those early days, sleep is a precious commodity for baby AND mommy.  A friend got a smaller swing (similar to the one you linked to) but then returned it for snug bunny becuase her baby just didn't like it.  Separately, the bouncey seat seemed essential since it kept him upright after feedings which was a big help with reflux.  Plus it easily moved throughout the house.   Could you use your pack n play as the portable crib in your bedroom?

  • Does a pack n play fit in your room? If you travel by car to relatives or vacation, you can use it for the next couple years. The basic graco pack n play is easy to pack up and store.

I ended up using both a swing and bouncer, I got mine used. Baby liked to sleep in swing and play in bouncer.

The Rock n' Play doesn't take up much room and folds very easily.  I was thinking about registering for one, and our friends visited with their 4 mo daughter and brought her RnP.  I was glad I got to see it in action.  Very light and easy to fold or move around, and DH, who is clueless about all things baby, said "oh this is awesome, we should get one of these".  We're definitely going to register for one (they're about $60-70).

ETA: I'd recommend a Pack n Play before the RnP though, if you have the space...you can use a PnP for a few years.

  • Pack & Play won't fit in the room. I have a hand-me-down and it doesn't have the newborn napper.

is the RnP safe to sleep in? I'm only thinking of using it for the first months. After that he will be going into the crib in the nursery
  • Yes, it's safe for sleeping.  Some of the moms on my local board swear by them, and have said that their LOs slept exclusively in the RnP for a few months.  It's also helps with reflux.

We had everything but the Rock and Play was probably the best investment. It is super lightweight, very portable and my son slept great in it for the first 8 weeks. (He's a huge kid and just got too big for it but I've read a lot of people using them for many months.) We used it exclusively for night sleeping since it was easy and convenient to keep by the bed and you can easy reach out with a hand or foot to get it rocking. Even despite his short time in it, it was well worth the money for the basic model. In fact, Target just marked down a bunch for their big baby clearance and I bought one for a friend's baby shower-- it wasn't on her registry but I'm going to tell her what a lifesaver it was for us and make her try it!
