Can we make it our mission to debunk OWTs?

I'll start. That damn purple intergluteal cleft line has been there since we all checked, when, last week? I am, however, not dilated at all (aren't you glad I shared?). I've also gone on several bumpy rides, to no avail.

Oh, and sex. Though the kind I have doesn't involve prostaglandins, so...

Edited to replace "crack line" with "intergluteal cleft".

  • Loading the player...
  • Spicy food. Ummmm all it gave me was even worse heartburn!

  • As much as I would love this baby to come sooner than later, I haven't tried any of the OWTs.  I am convinced they don't work.  I watched my cousin literally try all of them starting at 38 weeks and she had to be induced at 41 weeks.  They are all bogus if you ask me!!

Although I'm definitely interested to see what happens with the poster who ate the beef tongue...
  • I'm hoping this line of storms that is supposed to come through tonight will do something for me since they say the change in atmospheric pressure can trigger labor.

  • Lol--I'm working on the beef tongue. Ill keep ya posted. How long should I wait to mythbuster that? 24 hrs? 2 days?

My aunt has been a nurse anesthetist on a labor and delivery floor for almost 40 years and swears that both changes in barometric pressure and full moons show an increase of women being admitted to have babies. Although this isn't really a labor inducer you can try on your own, it's just nature doing its thing!

I have to say, with DD my hair, nails and skin were all amazing. This one? Hair is dry and dull, crap nails and I'm one giant pimple. Quite interested in finding out if its a boy or a girl!

I'm too early to try any OWTs but I'm holding out hope that the beef tongue is "the one"...:-P

I was just talking to my OB about this at my appointment on Friday.  She said she knows on days she's on call and it rains or is a full moon she is going to be busy all night.

  • Spicy food (which I've eaten all throughout pregnancy and before) has done nothing to help labor. The exercise ball has done nothing. Walking does nothing, though I'm on bedrest but given permission to take one 10 minute walk each day if my bp stays ok. Ten minutes doesn't do a thing. And sex has done nothing. That being said, I haven't been doing any of it to really and seriously try to start labor, more of just for fun to see what if. I think I'm just a firm believer that nothing is going to work unless labor was going to start anyway.

But I sure wish something would happen over here!!!

  • The last time they had to stop my preterm labor was due to sex. Within two hours I started having  contractions 5 minutes apart. Could have just been a coincidence, but I'm not throwing that one completely out yet.

It has been storming here for over a week. My cervix hasn't even softened. I call bullshit.

  • I've had several strangers comment in the past week that I must be having a boy since I'm carrying so low.  Nope... It's a girl, and she hasn't dropped, and I don't think my belly looks any lower than it has, so I don't know what these people are talking about.  Women carry differently!
  • We had a massive storm here last night. Nadda. Walking, stairs, bouncing, squatting, sex, nadda. My strongest contrax come while I'm sitting on my arse doing nothing.
  • Any word on the beef tongue? :P

Note to self - drink some balsamic out of a shot glass tonight. ;)

This one isn't exactly an old wives tale, but its not an accurate predictor either. Many women DO drop a few lbs just before labor begins, but there are plenty of other reasons for the scale to change as well so you can't predict based off of it. Honestly just a lb it could even be a difference in the amount of clothing (or type of shoes) you wore this time in comparison to last time

I do wear the same thing every week (yoga pants, tank and flip flops) and I go the same time every week, so at least I know that is consistent. I'm not gonna hold my breath, but interesting others have heard this!
