Wednesday crazy...

Apparently there's a movement among some parents to ban sleepovers.... https://www.education.com/slideshow/no-sleepovers-kids/then-now-sleepover/

Thoughts?

I guess I'm a bad parent because I've already thought about how nice it is that our basement is finished so when DS is old enough he can have sleepovers down there and we won't have to hear them....hmm...wonder what they could get into.....

Re: Wednesday crazy...

  • I had to stop reading after the first couple slides, it is just ridiculous.

  • Yeah, talk about overthinking something. Oooh no, they might stay up too late!

  • Sleepovers are one of the essential rites of childhood. So what if they run down the street in their underwear (like I did), they're kids!

  • My parents were not fans of sleepovers. I was rarely allowed to spend the night out or have a friend spend the night. My dad always said nothing good happens after midnight. That was largely true, but its not like terrible things were routinely happening either. Usually the worst thing happening was consuming large amounts of Surge and Pringles and gossiping about people not there.

  • Lord, I just can't imagine being that uptight. DD would rather have people spend the night at our house and I would rather her spend the night out. LOL
  • Is it crazy that I plan to check the sex offender registry before I let dd go on play dates or sleepovers? I don't check it, but within the last year found out that someone I know from church married a sex offender. We have DDs the same age. She will never go over to their house. Since finding this out I've reconsidered sleepovers.

  • I don't let DD spend the night with people I don't know well. So no, it's not crazy to check, but its crazy not to let them go even if you check...IMO
  • I am pro sleepovers. I was allowed to sleep over at my best friends house and her at my house in elementary school. My best friend in high school wasnt allowed at sleepovers because her parents were worried we would get into trouble.

I wouldnt let ds sleep over at just anyones house but if I knew the child and their parents well then no problem. Seems like a good way to get free babysitting for date nights.

  • I am definitely on the pro-sleepover team. SS has had a few at our house and we have had some sleepovers with SS, DS, our niece and nephews. They are so much fun.

Growing up my parents weren't big on letting us have friends stay at our house but we were always allowed to stay at friends houses, provided our parents knew the families. I believe that sleepovers are a great part of growing up.
