Darn you DH. Vent

Last night the IL's called and asked us to dinner tonight. DH's aunt and uncle will be there and they want to meet ds2. The problem is the restaurant is 45 minutes away and the reservations are at 6pm. Ds1's bedtime is 6:30 and ds2 likes to cluster feed at night so he is constantly on the boob. I said yes anyway so they could meet him, but DH just called now and he is going to be zstuck at work! So now I have to take a 14 month and 3 week old to this restaurant by myself, at almost bedtimes! I am not happy. The IL's will be there to Help, but they do wired things. For example last time we went to dinner, they gave ds1 a whole loaf o bread and incouraged him the rip it into pieces, making a huge mess. That is not behavior I condone and especially not at a fancy restaurant. Any ideas of how I can get out of this! Thanks for letting me vent!

  • If your DH is stuck at work, why can't you have that as an excuse? I would not want to take a 3 week old out at that time.  Mine likes to feed constantly too from 6pm to 9pm.  It's not a fun thing, but i manage.  This would stress me out and I would not be able to feed the baby.  DH and I try never to go past bedtime for our toddler.  Maybe on weekends once in a while.  Otherwise, we make arrangements to go out after she's asleep.

  • I would cancel and make plans when DH could help out. Maybe do a weekend lunch instead! Good luck!

  • 6:30 is a bed time? Well anyway, that's none of my business. I wouldn't go...if your husband is stuck at work...that's a good enough excuse to me.

Unfortunately, yes 6:30 is his bedtime. We have tried pushing it back but that has not worked. I was hoping when DH called the IL's they would say we coud reschedule, but they just offered to come over and help me instead. Getting us there is not the problem, it is when we are there and ds1 is going to be tired and cranky and ds2 is just going to want to eat.

    Uhhhh I'm sorry! How annoying!
  • Well, maybe they can help put DS1 to bed while you focus on feeding the baby. Problem solved. :)

I would keep with your normal routine and if they are bored with it, they can leave. You are not in the position to entertain people and they should not expect it.
