Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Earlier sleep time needed?

Hello! Need advice on possibly starting a new sleep time. My husband works evenings so I have had my LO on a later schedule since week 8 (he's 18 weeks now) in preparation for going back to work this fall. I would put him to bed at 8:30-9pm, then wake up at 9am for the day. He usually wakes 1-2 times at night. The past few days he has been sleeping through his last nap and into the night! Which means he is falling asleep at like 6:30!
When this happens he wakes at like 7:30am and I'm sure he is ready for the day. I'm not sure if this NEW schedule is due to his 4 month growth spurt (which I think actually happened about 2 weeks ago) or just his natural time clock catching up with him.
Tonight I put him down for his last nap at 6:30, he slept until I woke him up to get a last feeding in and change into PJ's at 8pm, then he knocked right back out. I guess we will see what tonight/tomorrow brings!

Re: Earlier sleep time needed?

  • My DS did this exact same thing, nap #3 was no longer a nap- but bed time. I'm going with it- and now we do our bath/bed time routine right after dinner (7pm) and he is sound asleep by 8pm. This is great because I can take care of everything after both kids are down for the night to prepare for the next day. I think it's normal for this to happen, I remember with DS#1 this occured naturally as well.

  • Thanks for the advice, yeah I kinda figured it was a natural change. Last night he woke at 1am and 5am to feed then slept all the way to 9am. It seems like a lot of sleep to me, but I guess he needs it.

  • Sounds perfect. I'd just go with it
