brown belly button

My Lo has had a light brown belly button since his cord stump fell off. I occasionally try to scrub it (gently) clean to no avail. Anyone else had this? My mil insists its dirt but it seems like a pigment thing.

    DD's is like this and it's just the pigment in skin.  I've picked and nothing there to pick.

    I asked my pedi about this and he said that about 40% of babies' belly buttons keep a brown tinge. Sometimes they will fade over time, others will not. My LO has a brown tinge as well.

    That's funny because I just asked my pedi last week at our 4 month appt about it. She said no concerns, some kids just keep a darker pigment there. It will probably change over time.

    Im glad I read this, my LO has then same thing. I figured it would change overtime as well.

    I felt silly but I asked my pedi if my DD's brown belly button was normal and he said yes. It's just the pigment of her skin.
