GMC Acadia (or similar models) Owners and Convertible Carseats-

Trying to be a little specific as I narrow down my search for the best convertible for DS. And I come here to ask because my local baby stores don't have one of the carseats I'm considering to hook into my car to try for fit, so here goes:

I'm looking for a convertible seat that will last us a while so I'm down to either the Chicco NextFit or the Diono Radian (some verison of).

I want it to sit rear facing as long as possible, but I have Captains chairs in the middle row so either seat will have to fit behind the passenger that I sit in whenever we go anywhere as a family- and I like my leg room.

I've seen that the Diono Radian has to be angled pretty dramatically for babies under approximately 8 months, does that fit behind a passenger seat?

I also see that the Chicco NextFit has a lot of reclining options which I like, but do they work behind the passenger seat or are you stuck with one or two for space restrictions?

I can probably put off the purchase for a few months until DS outgrows his Chicco KeyFit30, but I'm thinking that will happen around 8 months (ironically the same time the Radian can sit more upright).

Sorry for the lengthy post, with the KeyFit being so new I have read rave reviews on safetly and lifetime, but not a lot of people I know own one.

I also like the thought that the Raidian converts to a booster so this seat could (if expiration dates allow) be the only other seat I buy for DS to last him through 8 years or 48".

  • If you get the Radian, you are probably going to want the angle adjuster additionally.  It helps make the seat more upright and I think you'd have a hard time with the Radian giving your enough room for people in the front without it.  That said, you can't use the angle adjuster til baby has good head support.  Also, the Radian is almost always outgrown by height before you get to use the booster so I wouldn't even make that a consideration for your decision.

The Nextfit is nice too and either one is going to get you extended rear facing. It probably just comes down to preference.  It would be ideal if you could try either one out because there are some quirks that may make you like one over the other,  For example, the Radian has a ratcheting belt and it's not a smooth pull like the Keyfit is.
