Birth classes?

Has anyone heard of or done the Bradley method of birth?

Re: Birth classes?

  • Yes, that's the most common type of natural childbirth class, I believe.  With my last pregnancy, we did a lot of research on Bradley vs. hypnobirthing vs. hypnobabies, and decided to go with hypnobirthing, mainly because there was a very well-reviewed instructor who teaches very close to our house.  Like my husband says, "hypnobirthing is a silly name for a great method."  I had a fabulous intervention-free hospital birth and attribute it to the great information and training we received in the hypnobirthing class.

I'm sure many other ladies on this board can give you reviews of the Bradley method.  Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • I am doing a Bradley type of class. I am taking Birth Bootcamp which is a natural child birth type of class its supposed to be amazing! I have to take it in order to birth at the birthing center with my midwife
  • I'm doing natural childbirth, so when I was reading pregnancy books, I assumed I would want to do the Bradley Method classes. After talking to my midwife and doing some research, though, I think we are going to do the birthing classes my midwife recommended through the birthing center. Bradley Method is all about husband-coached childbirth and my DH is really laid-back so it doesn't really fit his personality (Plus, I feel like I'd be pissed if he's telling me what to do while I'm in labor).

The other thing that made me decide against it is that a lot of the sessions look like they are informational/not useful for labor. For instance, class 3 is about the changes your body goes through during pregnancy. Not that this isn't helpful, but you'd already be in your third trimester and, if you're like me, will have read every piece of material about pregnancy that is useful to you.

  • That's what I would like to do! A friend of mine who just had her baby in May, did it and she is swearing up and down by it. She wants to get in to being an instructor, so I'm really looking forward to finding out more information regarding the Bradley method!
  • We did a general childbirth class and Bradley was the method taught.  To be honest, I don't feel like I personally learned anything new in the class that I couldn't learn from hanging on these boards!  But I'm so glad that we took it b/c DH knew NOTHING about birth and it was a real eye opener for him.  I ended up having a c/s without labor so I guess it was kind of a waste for us but then again, they did discuss what to expect in a c/s and that was really good for DH to hear.  Also, that instructor was a huge BF proponent and her enthusiasm really helped DH get comfortable with the idea and he even went to a BF class with me after that and I was so surprised at what a huge support he was for me during BF.
