Need some advice re MOTN wakeups

My husband doesn't typically recommend I ask for advice online, but for this he did (usually, I think he thinks I get TOO MUCH info on here. haha)  :)

LO slept through the night around 8 or 9 weeks, but it has been sporadic since then, and recently, came to a screeching halt. He went to bed at 8:30, was up at 1:00 for a bottle (fell back to sleep right afterwards), then woke up again at 4:00. A couple nights ago when he woke up at 4, I put him in his swing so I could prep a bottle, and he fell asleep, not eating. He slept for another couple of hours. The next day, and last night, I put him in his swing, and he just kind of chilled out, but didn't seem hungry - totally mellow, and wide awake. I didn't want to feed him for the sake of feeding him, but he wouldn't go back to sleep, either.  I laid with him on the couch, and he conked out for another couple of hours again. I'm afraid we're getting into a bad habit (snuggling / sleeping on the couch every day at 4am) and I'm sure it's just a phase... but I'm not sure how to break this. He wakes up  / cries when I try to put him back in his crib; I could give him a bottle and then try, but I'm not sure that he's even hungry. I've tried just leaving him in his crib in the first place, and even if he calms down with white notice / pacifier, it only lasts all of five minutes and he's crying again. I can't figure out what to do.

  • He's 14 1/2 weeks. We're definitely going through a regression - he used to sleep 9:30 ish to 5:30 ish. I'm hoping it gets better soon! Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll just try feeding him and see if that lets me get him back down into his crib. Worse comes to worse, we waste some formula. Wont be the first time!

  • 8:30 was actually new; we'd been doing 9-10ish before, and 8:30 was an experiment :) Poor kid, I feel like we're doing all sorts of experiments to figure this out! Our feeding schedule is a little all over the place which I dont think helps (though he eats the same amount every day, more or less; he just hasn't put himself on a schedule, really, and I don't want to enforce one) but even if he's eaten a short time before bed, we try to "top him off" before he goes down.

  • Not sure but maybe cross post to the March and April boards? They may have gone through this and have some solutions.

  • I am experiencing the same exact thing.  My baby is 15 weeks today and he was only waking up bt 2-3 or 4-5 to eat and would sleep till 6 or 7 ish.  This past week its been awful..hell go right to bed without crying or fussing on his own but then hes been waking up several times..12, 1, 2, 4 etc..we can just give him a paci and rub his back for a min and hell go right to sleep but it is soo annoying.  We usually have him in bed by 8-830 and dont change this time..if we go later he just gets overtired.  We keep with the same routine every night. Maybe it is just this age where they get like this?!?!?! Im hoping its just a phase!  I was thinking maybe I need to start sleep training and let him cry for a while before I go in.  I usually wait a couple mins and then go in.  I am one tired working mama.

I hear ya. I was feeling super confident before I went back, and then POW. Sleep regression.
ETA - although I do have to say... I enjoy the extra snuggle time in the morning, even if we ARE creating a bad habit.

  • Umm. The times you describe are what LO has always done, lol.

At 11 weeks he just started to have his first wake up at 2 instead of 1. Then up at 5 and up for good at 7. I hope things get better for you! Bad for me is when he wakes up every hour. Ugh.
