Pressure in Vagina

This is my 3rd baby and the last couple of days I have had a ton of pressure in my vagina. Almost like something is trying to push out. I've also had some pain where I had the episiotomies before. I have had lower back cramps on and off but nothing else. I feel it all the time and is worse when I sit. I didn't experience this with my other 2 until the 3rd trimester.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm a little worried but wanted to see if anyone else is feeling this way before I call the Dr.

Re: Pressure in Vagina

  • this is me, and im also on my 3rd. from my understanding this is normal and unless accompanied by spotting or bleeding. its just everything growing...but call your dr and just double check so you can feel a bit at ease.

  • I'm also on my third but not feeling any of this.  Then again both of mine were c/s so maybe that's why?  I don't know, I think I'd call the Dr.  It's the back cramps on top of the vaginal discomfort that would have me worried.

  • I already get the "lightning crotch" that you get toward the end of pregnancy. Not so comfortable! No pressure though, but I know what you are talking about.

  • Thanks ladies. I sent a message to my doctor. I'm sure its normal but the cramping with the pressure is making me nervous. Of course I googled and I should not have.

  • Tell them you want to go in & be checked out/have your cervix checked.

Mine was "the worst case scenario" which is rare, but I was feeling pressure around my pubic bone/vagina, low back, etc.  When I went in, my cervix was thinning & funneling, & I needed a cerclage due to Incompetent Cervix.  He thought I could go for a month if I needed to get work in order, but I said I wanted it done ASAP, so we scheduled it for the very next week (not emergency surgery, just regular schedule), & I'd deteriorated really quickly; there was almost nothing left to stitch, so if I'd ignored my feelings, not gone in for an appt, and then signed up for the surgery the very next opening, I would have lost my 1st.  With my 2nd they monitored me from the get-go, & I was funneling by my 12th week & again required a cerclage after my 13th/14th week.

Again, it's rare, & it's probably not your issue, but it CAN happen, so if something feels off or wrong, it's better to insist on an exam & put your mind at rest than to just ignore your feelings.  With pregnancy, it's all about "better to be safe than sorry."

  • The nurse emailed (didn't call me back, I had called her first) and asked me all the same questions she had just asked me on the phone and told me if I'm not bleeding or leaking fluid that I should try lying down and not doing anything and it should help.

I had told her on the phone that I already tried increasing my water intake and lying down and doing nothing and it doesn't change anything. She was really snotty on the phone and in her response. She basically told me they can try and get me in (my Dr is out today) or go to the ER.

I feel like I need to be checked but now feel stupid for feeling this way. :-(

Go in & see an OB, even if it isn't YOUR OB.  We wound up in the emergency room that weekend before they got me in for the appt, & the ER doc checked my cervix & said it "wasn't right" but he didn't think there was anything they'd do for me at that point of my pregnancy (I was like 17 or 18 weeks).  I called the nurse asap the next week day, they got me in, & yes, there was an issue.

There are plenty of people, nurses & doctor's included, that will pass it off as unfounded worry so just relax & rest, but it IS your body, & your head/gut, & I say go with it.  I'd rather find out there's nothing wrong & I worried for nothing then let someone shame or embarrass me into shutting up, & then there IS a problem that I could have prevented if I would have pushed the issue.  Be your own advocate...your health & that of the baby means more to you than it does to anyone else, so if you feel there's an issue, push it, & tell them you want your cervix checked, and/or baby.
  • Update....

Went in to walk in and they couldn't find a heartbeat on the Doppler. They did a pelvic exam and said cervix was closed and looked good but they sent me to the ER for more testing and an ultrasound.

They found blood in my urine but no infection.Baby was very active and the heartbeat was 148bpm. So glad I went in. The Drs said its always better to be safe than sorry. Thank you for the advice.

  • I am so thankful for a good update!!

Have you ever had a varicose vein during pregnancy?  It is rare this early in, however the more pregnancies you have, the earlier some things set in.
  • That's great news! Are you having a boy or girl? Do you know yet?
  • I did have varicose veins last pregnancy but they said it didn't look like that was it right now.

We could've found out if it was a boy/girl but DH was out of town so he wasn't with me so I didn't find out. The tech did know but I asked her not to share. I'm guessing boy because the baby was so active and at one point had one arm behind its head and egs fully stretched out haha. We will find out in Sept if I'm right.
