Solids question

I saw someone posted about solids and I have no clue what I'm doing at this stage.  We started at 6 months and I make his food; I used to give him chunks of watermelon and banana to play with and he would do just fine with them. When I tried to do that a week or so ago he choked on them, not gagged but choked.. twice! Scariest thing of my life and now I'm petrified of giving finger foods. How can I help him transition to finger foods? He sits up on his own and has a good pinching grasp so I think he's ready but I'm afraid he's going to choke again =/ I make his purees on the thicker side with some chunkiness to it hoping that'll help. I was going to do apple puree for today's lunch, should I try and just give him the cooked apple slice? TIA!!!

Re: Solids question

  • This scares me too. I mostly give Connor whatever we are eating and just give him tiny pieces and cut it up in small bites. He has gagged a few times but hasn't choked. Maybe the pieces were just a bit too big or hard? Have you tried ripe avocado pieces? The texture seems to be pretty easy for babies :)
