Pregnant after IF

IF lurker: ? about hcg infusion prior to ET

Hi I just posted on IF about this, but was curious if any have heard of HCG infusion prior to ET.  my RE just called asking if I would like to participate in their research study. 50% get assigned placebo, 50 % get the infusion.  I'm a little skeptical....because they present it as "increasing odds of pregnancy"....

I was presented with this option as well.  When I asked my nurse if she thought I should do it, she implied that it would be one more variable to add to the worries and probably best if I stuck to the tried and true route (which luckily worked).  Other people I asked for advice were my acupuncture doctor and a relative who is a doctor.   They both said to not be a guinea pig and let more studies be done before trying anything new; and the study that was done in Egypt is only testing on a small sample of human population (homogenius ethnic makeup).   Besides, you never know what kind of long term effect this may have on your kid somewhere down the road.

  • I participated in the same study on 6/28 and am now pregnant. This was my 3rd IVF cycle and the only cycle where an embryo survived to Day 5. I also did acupuncture right before and right after ET. I have no idea if I received the hcg or not but I wanted to be sure I did everything I could to try to get pregnant. My thinking was even if I didn't get pregnant, my participation in the study may help someone else down the road. Good luck!

  • Thanks you for the input.... DH and I have decided not to participate. I think there are too many variables. Thanks ladies!
