A friend/coworker of mine was telling me yesterday how she wanted to start planning her sons birthday. Her sons birthday is not till January so I was just kind of like "oh really".
Apparently she wants to throw him a party on the first week of January (when his actual birthday is) at bonkers. (Its like a chuck e cheese) Then she wants to throw another bigger party at the end of march. I asked her why she wanted to do another one. She said she wants to do it like I did my sons birthday.
My sons bday is in April so it's outdoors with moonbounce, clown and all this other junk. I asked her why she didn't just do it January in a hall. She said she just really wanted to do two parties for him since not a lot of people ever actually go and he doesn't get a lot of presents......
Personally if I already went to some kids bday party and then received another invite for the same kids bday months later I just wouldn't go. Am I the only one? I have never heard of someone doing this, maybe I'm out of the loop.
Re: NBR just thought this was the oddest thing I have ever heard...
My BSC SIL sent out Save the Dates in February for her kid's 2nd birthday party in July. And she makes people come in from California and Canada (to NY) for it. It's a birthday party - not a wedding. Let's get some perspective here.

She's a whackadoodle. I can see having 2 parties - a small family party and then a party with his friends. But that would all be done within a couple weeks of the actual birthday not 2+ months after. And aren't his friends going to know when his birthday is and think it is odd he is having a party so late?
This is what I would've told her.
Anyways I can see a small family party and a small friend party but not two big parties. She is crazy.

Still sounds like BSC SIL. Every time she told someone she was KU they asked if she was getting married/told her she should get married. So she is spending her child's life trying to get the attention and excitement she wanted back then.
