Pregnant after a Loss

Am I nuts? UPDATE

BootsOrHeartsBootsOrHearts member
edited August 2013 in Pregnant after a Loss
I left a message with the nurses at my clinic, I wanted to see if I can come in today and have them check the heartbeat with the doppler. I'm sure they think I am the biggest pain in the butt, but I I can't control my PGAL brain. I think if I could feel him move that would give me some reassurance but I'm 20w and still haven't felt anything I'm certain of.

Are they going to think I'm nuts?

UPDATE: Got in to hear the heartbeat and everything is ok. He was moving around quite a bit it sounded like. Just wish I could feel it! Thank you ladies for understanding.

  • Nope. Not nuts. I called my OB almost every week during first tri because something was going on [or PgAL brain convinced me something was going on], and they still like me. :) I'm sure your clinic understands! *hugs*

  • You are totes not nuts. Just remember out of all the people in the world, they see and comfort all PgAL moms.

M/c is so uncommon and hush hush to the rest of the world, but they see, so out of everyone minus another AL'er they will understand.

Many T+P's I hope they call back soon and they get you in to ease your mind.

  • Who cares if they think you are nuts. You will get to hear baby's HB and ease your mind. This is their job. And you should record baby's little heartbeat with your voice memos on your phone. I did that and it's one of my favorite things to listen to. :)

  • Thanks ladies. I'm going in at 2 today. Hopefully that will put my mind at ease, at least for a while! Then I'll go back to eating starbursts to try and get him to move.

  • No, they will understand. I'm glad you called. My doctor always said that if I ever felt anxiety over anything, call her and they'd have me come in.

But from my own experience...feeling movement finally wasn't reassuring either. Well, it was for 5 minutes but then when you don't feel it you are playing the "is he/she moving enough' game till birth lol.

Today was the first day I caved and told my doctor I think I'm feeling decreased movement. Of course she sent me ASAP to get an u/s and a non stress test. As predicted, everything was fine :) And again, I felt better for about 5 minutes LOL.

If only we were all naive again and could have carefree pregnancies. I'm so jealous of people who have that.

  • Not at all nuts, or at least no more so than the rest of us! I'm pretty sure o/b's and m/w's are accustomed to anxious patients and I'm sure they understand PGAL.

Thinking about how many times I've called my m/w's office in the past 2 months, I sometimes wonder if I'm on a secret list of "most annoying patients," but if I am, at least they haven't told me so! :-)

  • As I'm sure you've gathered from the other responses...you are not nuts...not at all.

Whatever eases your mind and gives you comfort is what you should do. All of us can relate to being scared and concerned at times--do whatever works for you and ignore the judgement other put forward.

  • You are not nuts. I feel the same way. I am also 20 weeks and haven't felt any movement. My a/s confirmed we have a wiggly baby, but nothing yet. I was also told that if I felt uncomfortable or uneasy to call and any one of the nurses would be able to find the heartbeat on the doppler for me. The doctor said by 22w I should feel something.

  • Up until I could feel movement, my doppler is what got me by. I would do a HB check every other night. Now if LO doesn't move for awhile I still freak out a bit and start drinking juice or sitting a certain way in hopes of feeling LO move.

  • I saw the update...I am glad you were able to hear the little one! I didn't feel the baby for a while either because I have an anterior placenta. And even when I started feeling him, it was here and there. I didn't really feel much on a regular basis until 24-25w. It was very nerve racking. Call your ob anytime you need reassurance, that is part of their jobs. If they think you are being a pain, who cares! You are looking out for your well being and your little one and that is the most important! hugs!!
