Babies on the Brain

Questions, questions, questions.

Newbie here!!

Well I'm 21 and I have so many questions!!
I've been on the depo preva shot for about 6 years now and I've been told that it will be a lot harder for me to become pregnant than a normal woman. Me and my boyfriend aren't trying yet, but we've decided to wait till I'm about 27/28 and he'll be 31/32. So I want to be 210% prepared for a baby when the time comes. We've also decided to wait a year after we're married for me to stop the shot.

So first question is, has anyone been on the shot as long or longer than I have and how long did it take to become pregnant? What would help increase my chances of getting pregnant faster? How long before should I stop the shot?

Second question, has anyone tried certain techniques to conceive a boy or girl and succeeded?

I would like a girl and that's it. I've watched a few videos on different positions in which to conceive a girl. Just wondering if that all talk or other tricks and tips that other people used and had success.

Thanks!!!

Re: Questions, questions, questions.

  • I had the Depo shot.  To be pedantic, getting the shot doesn't make it "harder" for you to become pregnant; your basic physiology, and that of your partner, remain the same.  However, it can take longer to become pregnant after using the shot than if you stopped other forms of birth control because the shot's impact can linger far longer than the 3 months doctors claim the shot prevents pregnancy.  If you use condoms, for example, you can stop their use at any time and begin trying immediately.  Get off the shot, and use alternative forms of birth control, at least 12 months before you want to start trying and you'll have the same chance of getting pregnant than you would if you used different forms of birth control.

And there's no way to guarantee sex without using medical intervention.  Think of it as an introduction to the unexpected experiences that define parenthood, and start wrapping your head around the idea of having a boy.

(Interestingly, a person's odds of having a boy are very slightly higher; more boys are born than girls because boys have a higher mortality rate.  TMYK!)

  • My friend was on it and it took her about 7 months to get pregnant. Her OB said it would wear off as fast as the pill which I majorly side eyed but I'm not a doctor so...

Google shettles method for boy or girl but know that I honestly truly believe you get what you get.

    Good luck.
  • You aren't ready to have a baby if you "only want a girl and that's it.". That statement is so annoying to me!
  • you have so many years before even trying to conceive. if your concerns are your depo shot talk to your dr. about that.
and if you want a girl and thats it maybe a cat or a dog would suit you better than trying to have a child.
