Eating....

How much is your little one eating?  Does your LO always eat breakfast now or do you still nurse/bottle feed for that meal?  My sweet pea seems to just eat and eat and I'm paranoid we're overfeeding her :(

Re: Eating....

  • DS is completely off bottles. He eats approximately every 3 hours: Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack, Dinner. For meals, I feed him until he starts playing with his food. For breakfast, he usually eats a banana, some cheerios, WCM, and a few bites of my Nutrigrain bar. For supper, it's usually about 1/2 cup of entre and 1/2 of veggies. If he acts hungry after the main things are gone, I give him some Annie's crackers or grapes. At snack times, I don't typically feed him quite as much as at meals unless he's about to take a long nap.

  • I still nurse DS. He nurses around 530am, then goes back to sleep until about 730am. Then we get up, he has breakfast. Usually two eggs, half a piece of toast with hummus, and fruit. He doesn't snack. Lunch around 1130am. Yogurt and fruit, plus leftovers from dinner the night before. Then I nurse him to sleep for a nap. Dinner he has what we're having, usually meat and veggies and fruit. Sometimes he eats more than I do! He just eats until he's done. Then bath and nurse to sleep. He still nurse about two times at night, but I don't think he gets much. If I'm not home at night he doesn't take a bottle from DH so it's a comfort thing. We don't do cow's milk, he just drinks water.

Some days he eats very little, some days I'm surprised by how much he puts back. I don't really give it much thought. He takes what he needs. At this age they don't really overeat.

The other day he only had a couple bites of each meal and was super cranky and tired. He cut his first molar so I think that's probably why. But sometimes he doesn't eat a lot for no apparent reason! No big deal!

He has breakfast, usually cuties and whatever I have which is cereal or a smoothie. But he also usually has a bottle in the morning so mom can sleep in, so thats most of it.

Lunch is a bigger meal. Today we had grilled cheese and tomato soup. He had probably a 1/3 of the sandwich and a baby bowl of the soup.

Dinner depends on what we're having. Tonight was spinach Alfredo which he gobbles down. Last night's teriyaki chicken, red bellpeppers and rice didnt go over that well except for the rice (which I sneaked in tincy bits of pepper)

When I asked our pedi if he could give me example amounts of how much he should be getting, he told me, "You decided what and when and let him decide how much."

  • I'm still nursing. He nurses as soon as he gets up 7:30 am. Then has breakfast, this is usually his biggest meal. He has whatever I have with some fruit. He then will usually fall asleep on his own for a morning nap at 10:00-10:30. Lunch is about 11:30- 12 ish. Usually only a few bites of something and some fruit. Then I usually nurse him for a nap about 1:30-2:00pm, he nurses again when he gets up about 4-5 ish. Dinner is about 6ish and he usually has a good appetite. We still nurse through the night. DS isn't doing any other form of milk.
  • DD still nurses a lot and eats 4 meals. She eats like a trucker! Sometimes I wonder where all the food goes LOL

  • We just finished nursing a few weeks ago, and he doesn't take any bottles. He eats a ridiculous amount of food - like as much as I do!

Breakfast - fruit, some kind of grain like cereal, toast, whole wheat waffle, and usually yogurt mixed with baby food, milk
Lunch - full sandwich or wrap, veggies, fruit or a smoothie, milk or water
Snack - 2 or 3 things - banana with almond or peanut butter, cheese, fruit, veggie pouch, baby granola bar, hummus and crackers, etc and water
Dinner - leftovers or what we're having or a sandwich or something (like a full plate)- some mix of protein, fruit, veggies, and grains, and milk
    A little milk before bed

We usually do mostly almond milk because cow's milk upsets his stomach a bit.

Wow! That's a lot of food!
  • Seriously. It's ridiculous. He's consistently been 75th-90th percentile for height and 10-25th f++or weight, so I guess he just has a big appetite and a high metabolism! My husband has a great metabolism, so I guess he got lucky :)
