InfantSEE appointment?

DD has her InfantSEE appointment tomorrow, and I was curious if anyone else has done this??  Just wondering what they do during the appointment, how your LO tolerated it, etc.

Someone posted about it on my BMB a few weeks ago, but here is the info for those who haven't heard of it:

Re: InfantSEE appointment?

  • I might have been the one that posted about it (Dec12, right?).  Anyway...  It wasn't bad at all.  They let her sit on my lap the whole time, and our doctor came to her level.  She did a few things: She moved a toy in front of her to make sure she'd follow it, then she had me cover one eye at a time and did the same thing.  Then, she looked into her eyes with the little handheld light.  Then, used some lenses to somehow guestimate what her prescription would be right now.  Then, she put eye drops in to dilate her eyes - Those took ~15 minutes to work, but then she did the light and lens things again after that.  Our DD reacted well - She's pretty easy going though, so she was entertained just by having someone pay attention to her.

Oh, one thing that I sort of messed up - When I have my eyes dilated, I always like to wear sunglasses for the drive home bc my eyes are super sensetive.  Since the odds are against us for DD keeping her sunglasses on, they suggested throwing a blanket over her car seat.  Of course, I forgot one...

  • @SingleMom31 Thanks for your OP about the program. I hadn't heard of it previously, turns out our eye doc participates. They do their InfantSEE exams on Wednesday mornings between 9-12 months. I'll be calling for DS appointment in the next few weeks. Thanks again!!

  • @lizshort96 - No problem.  I heard of it by accident - I was noticeably pregnant when I went to my eye doctor last year, and she told me to bring DD when I came in the following year (which was right about 6 months).  I kind of wonder why they don't publicize it more...
