Babies: 3 - 6 Months

no more swaddling?

Apparently you're not supposed to swaddle after 4 months? In my weekly email from The Bump it says they need to move around at night to help with motor skills. I thought it was when lo could roll over. When did you stop swaddling?

Re: no more swaddling?

  • We use the halo but leave his arms out. I feel like this will help him transition when we just stop using it altogether. We started leaving his arms out around 3 months

  • DS just turned 4 months and we are still swaddling him. He is getting close to rolling so we ordered the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit. I have heard its a good transition for swaddling babies. Because DS loves to be swaddled. We will see how it works.

  • We stopped when he was getting close to rolling back to belly, shortly after 3 months.
  • we stopped the morning I woke up and found her face first (swaddled) on the bed at 3.5 months.  Luckily I had bought a Magic Sleep Suit like a month prior, and she transitioned seamlessly. She doesn't roll in her sleep with it, but she does maneuver. Plus she get's plenty of tummy time.

  • Would you recommend using the magic sleep suit in the summer with no ac in the house? We live in Seattle and no one has ac around here. I don't want him to get overheated!
  • I started unswaddling when DD was starting to roll - I noticed her on the monitor one night in the swaddle trying to roll over so I was terrified that she'd roll over in the swaddle and be stuck.  I unswaddled the next night and she slept like 9 hours straight.  We haven't had an issue since then - it was about 2 weeks ago and she turned 4 months this past Thursday.  Just this weekend she rolled completely over in her sleep.  The first time it freaked her out so she woke up screaming.  The second time it freaked me out when she didn't wake up screaming so I did the FTM thing and went in and put her on her back again, which only woke her up.  Last night was the third time and I just let her be.  I love sleeping on my stomach so I can't blame her!
  • we stopped swaddling at around 3 1/2 months when he started rolling from back to side.  now we use cotton pjs and a sleep sack.  we just did it cold turkey.  it went fine.

  • We stopped swaddling as soon as our son started trying to roll which was around 4 months, it took a good week before he would sleep without it but it was worth it because he rolls like crazy now. Better to be safe than sorry
  • stopped cold turkey at 3 months

  • Cool thanks. I bought some sleep sacks with no swaddle portion and he definitely sleeps lighter bit I'm hoping its just an adjustment period.
  • We stopped cold turkey (for overnight sleep) at 4.5 months. He still likes his swaddle and RnP for naps.
  • We haven't swaddled for a couple months.  The girls would just break out all the time, so we switched to sacks.  If they tolerated it better, we'd still swaddle until they rolled.
