Baby Baths?

Mobile: Baby Baths?

I am stuck on what to do for a baby bath.  Can any BTDT mommies recommend one that they love?  I want something I can use for a while.  A friend recommended one that she loves but it is REALLY big and I was hoping for something a little more manageable.  I would like to say that I am not really comfortable bathing the baby in the kitchen sink.  I keep it clean but something about washing my baby in the same sink I rinse chicken in creeps me out.  I am worried that I won't be able to use anything in the bathtub comfortably for a few weeks depending on how I deliver (vaginal/CS)  Any suggestions?  Past experiences?

  • We registered for a flexibath foldable bathtub, per several recommendations

  • I don't have a past experience but I'm just using a simple plastic tub that I can place on my counter and put a bit of water in when she first starts taking baths, then since that tub isn't the most space savvy, ill get rid of that one and use the mesh seat in the bathtub.
  • What worked for us was a bath sling seat that fit in our sink, although I think our kitchen sink might be on the larger side.

What didn't work for us was the Puj Tub. It was a great concept and while it probably works perfectly with the right size sink, it was too small for our kitchen sink and none of our bathroom sinks had enough clearance between the spout and the tub when it was 'installed'.

  • Once my little guy was about 3-4 months old, I put him in a bath bucket (can't remember which brand we got).  This was AMAZING!  He hated bath time before that, but the ability to sit up and be emerged up to his armpits made all the difference in the world.  But for a younger babe, I have NO idea!  He hated the two other tubs we tried - mesh slings in a baby tub. The only thing her really tolerated was me sitting in the bathtub with my legs bent and him on my legs facing me (had a towel under him to keep him from slipping), and enough water to cover most of his body.

Those little inflated flower petal bath thingies look cool, but I don't know anyone who's used one and I'm not buying anything without a direct recommendation.

  • I used one of the big plastic tubs, maybe the one your friend recommended. We got so much use out of it, I sat it on the bathroom sink until DS was really splashing maybe 4/5 months then we moved it to the bath tub and used it there till he was 8/10 months. It's big but I kept it in a closet when I wasn't using it. They also sell sponges to go in it so the baby doesn't slip, I do highly recommend this tub.
  • We don't have a bathtub in our house, so we're limited to what we can put in a sink. We're borrowing our friend's Puj tub to see if it'll work in our bathroom sink, and if that's a no-go we'll probably pay too much money for the Boon tub that folds flat, because space is at a premium in our studio.

We got one of the big plastic ones with a newborn sling from walmart.com. I wanted something that he could use until toddler age. We will either put it in our kitchen sink or just use it in the bathtub.

  • This one has been useful to us from newborn through when they were ready for the big tub, for two kids so far. Planning on using it again. I drilled a small hole in the end lip and have a string tied through, so it can hang on the wall in the furnace room (when we're not using it) and when we do use it, I hang it at the end of the tub wall where it doesn't get in the way of showers. When a newborn and young infant, I can put this over the kitchen sink, and then eventually just sit it in the tub. I never used the sling bc I felt my babies liked to be in the water more rather than suspended above.

  • Both of my girls were terrified of the baby tub. So, they took a bath with me for the first few months, then aroud 4 months I would lay a folded up towel in the tub and just lay them on that. They really liked that!

This is what we are doing too. My bet friend swore by it, and then liked using the bumbo in the tub/sink when he was bigger.
  • 3 of my friend swore by this whale tub so i got it too. I've since heard more recos for it, so i'm hoping it'll work out.

We LOVED the Prince Lionheart Wash Pod until DS grew out of it. Then we got a similar blue tub to the one PP posted above. I think we moved DS to the big bathtub by 7/8 months.

This is the exact one we have and we love it! We also had a mesh fold up seat that we used to start with, but we were wasting so much water and it was hurting my back bending over the tub. I agree with you that bathing the baby in the sink is gross. There are more germs in a typical kitchen sink than in a toilet bowl! Yuck!

  • We got the Primo Eurobath for DS1. It is pretty big, but we were able to use it for quite a long time because of that. One side is for newbies and holds them in place, the other side is for older babies able to sit on their own. We used it until DS1 was able to pull himself up at 10 months, because it was nice not having to fill the whole bathtub with water.

I got this one as well!

I have to admit, it looks a little silly. It has great reviews on amazon though. I see it being pretty short lived though, useful for a limited period of baby's life.
  • We just got a cheap bath sponge ($5.99 at BRU) for our LO.  We love that we'll be able to fit it in our sink, and that it will keep baby warm (by absorbing all the nice warm bath water).  And we live in a tiny apartment and there's no way in hell we have room for a full on bath tub

We also have a munchkin duck tub for when he/she is older

  • The blue plastic one above is the one we have.  We didn't buy one.  One of my friends popped hers over since she's done with it for a bit.

  • We also have the first years tub, loved the sling for when dd was really small. Once she started standing in it we just stopped using the baby tub and put her in the big tub with a nonslip bathmat.

  • When my son was newborn we used the blue tub from pp. Once he was sitting up we used the duck tub in the bathtub. That's my plan again for this little girl.

  • @Nukke We got a very similar bath sponge from Target. And that's what we're going with. Our house is small, especially the bathroom, and I have a very good friend who loved just using the sponge. She used it on the counter when her babe was really little and in the sponge bath stage and then in the bottom of the tub when she was healed enough to be down on the floor bent over the tub. Once he was sitting up, grown up tub it was!

This is what we got, based on recommendations and the fact that our sinks are all very small and we have one giant clawfoot tub (house is >100 years old), making most of the traditional options less practical.

This is actually the bath that my friend recommended.  I think I will just order it and be done with it.  She also recommended a sponge to go in it for when he is tiny.  Thank you so much for all of your responses

  • We have the big plastic baby bath tub and it really just works the best! We just stored it in the bath tub, behind the shower curtain, when we weren't using it, and moved it when we showered. It was no big deal.
