Going Potty While Out

DD has been potty trained for three months and is doing great!  She has the bladder of a camel, so rarely has to go while we are out.  The park we typically go to is part of the Park District, so there is a potty there, which we have used a couple of times.  Today we were at a different park that has no potty and it occurred to me that if she had to use the potty, we really would have been stuck.  Thankfully she did not have to go, but what do you do in a situation such as this?  Oh and I have my seven month old son and a seven month old who I watch every day with us.  TIA

Re: Going Potty While Out

  • Bring a little potty chair in the car with you?  Being a girl, it's lots harder to find a bush ;)  Main thing though, make sure she goes right before you leave and restrict liquid until you are at a place with a potty.  I'd also make those trips shorter and have an extra change of clothes just in case.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

We actually walk everywhere because I don't have a car seat for the little boy I watch.  I do have an extra set of clothes, so I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if she did have an accident, maybe I'm worrying too much.
  • My daughter won't use public toilets.  So, I carry a portable little potty (Pottette) in my bag.  I also have our Bjorn potty chair in the back of the car that she can use if we happen to be near the car when she needs to go.

Maybe, but I get it!  We all want our little ones to be successful :)  Do you have a big enough stroller basket you could stick a smaller seat in it?

Oh that's perfect, I just ordered it, thanks!
  • I think that you can hold her in a way she can pee...like her back to you, holding her under the knees to create a sitting position. I haven't tried it, just have friends that have.

We did this on a road trip when we were in the middle of nowhere. It hadn't occurred to me to bring a standalone potty with us. My husband held her in a sitting position by the side of the road. My daughter loved the novelty of it and kept telling us she wanted to go potty outside.
