Working Moms

If I were a SAHM:

I would lay in bed with DD and snuggle all day...in a world where money doesn't exist and laundry does itself, of course.

Re: If I were a SAHM:

  • I would give anything for my daughter to snuggle with me - she only does it is she has a fever above like 102 degrees. And thankfully, that is not often!

    DD2 - Charlotte Avery - 1/27/14

  • Mine has a little stomach bug today, so I'm getting lots of extra snuggles.

  • DS1 is a snuggler again! Wasn't for a long time and now he tells me he needs snuggles.

Sigh. I want to go home now and snuggle. :((

  • That sounds really nice. If I was a SAHM, I wouldn't be working on week 3 of this cold and DD wouldn't be constantly sick at DC.  It would be glorious!

  • If I were a SAHM I wouldn't have to wake up at 5:30 and drop DS off at DC by 7:00 Mon-Fri. I would have more snuggle time with DS, we could do more Mommy and Me type of activities and he could start karate or basketball like he has been asking. Perhaps manage my mountain of laundry better!

  • I would take advantage of all sorts of Mommy & Me type classes that apparently most places around here don't think working parents want to do on weekends.  Seriously - I find listings for great activities and maybe 1 out of 10 have a Saturday or Sunday class. It's so frustrating!

  • Our house would definitely go into foreclosure, and we'd have to sell everything we own to buy food. But a girl can dream...

  • I would visit the gym daily, dropping my LO off at the gym daycare for an hour.  I would also be at the grocery store more frequently and try new recipes more often.  Finally, the wall paper in my kitchen would be pulled down!!!

I find this so frustrating and unfair as well! As if WMs don't want to do these activities and classes too...all summer I've enjoyed a 12 mo and under group at the library that only happens during the day on weekdays. There should be more evening and weekend groups and classes so WMs can enjoy each other's company and special bonding time with LO too.
  • I wish I could reply to this post w/o crying. Going back to work next week :(

    Anniversary

  • I was a SAHM for the first three years.  If I was one now, I would be bored out of my mind and looking for part-time work.

If we could financially make it with me working part-time now, I would be more active in my mother's group (I work part-time in the summer, mostly FT during the academic year), do more fun things with DS, get back to my weekly exercise classes, and do more "me time" type things since DS starts kindergarten this month.

  • If I were a SAHM I would need a huge amount of discretionary income every month because I would want to belong to a gym, take classes with DS, go to zoos, parks and museums, and pay someone to clean the house. And I still probably wouldn't cook very often!

This.  But it would be so much fun :)

Same with our city! I tried signing DS up for swimming for the summer - there were 16 classes during the week, and only 1 class on the weekend. And of course that one class was full!
  • I would buy boobs and stroller jog each morning, allowing the knockers to give me black eyes.

  • If I were a SAHM, I would try to snuggle with DD more, but she would just squirm out of my arms b/c she can't sit still these days!

However, I would also quickly go insane and have to be committed in an asylum.  I almost died on maternity leave.  I know. I know. I'm a horrible mom b/c I love my career. ;-)

  • I would like to think that if I were a SAHM, I would go to the park, swimming, or generally hang around outside for an hour everyday. My DD seems calmer on days when she gets some real Vit D. Like others, I'd hopefully make us of the mommy & me classes - they are hard to find on the weekends!

In reality though, I think being at home would mean a lot of multitasking - I'd be responsible for more of the household work and there would be a lot "could you please read to yourself?" while I try to put away the dishes, cook lunch, etc.

  • I would actually get to "play" with my DD.  It makes me sad to think that we rarely play together, with dolls and barbies. And now that she is six, that time is rapidly disappearing.  I have been having horrible guilt because of the fact that I have worked since she was 2 months old and also went to school until 2 years ago and just never seem to have enough time for her.

BFP #1 ended in MMC. Discovered Oct 2005 @10w5d, baby stopped growing around 6w. D&C.

BFP#3 Nov 2006. My "miracle baby" DD born 7/25/07
BFP #4 11/6/12. EDD 7/16/13~my birthday! No sac found @ 5w1d, betas not increasing. Natural m/c started 11/20/12.

BFP#5 11/9/13.  EDD 7/21/14  Our beautiful rainbow born on his due date!!

  • If I were a SAHM: I would be in much better shape. I manage to do 1-2 hour workouts on my days off (love the gym daycare PP mentioned!) but I'm usually too darn tired after working all day to make it to the gym...and when I do actually make it there, I usually am dragging and don't get in a very good workout. Plus, I feel guilty taking another hour to myself after I have already been away from DS for 10+ hours.

But, at the same time, I think I would get bored after awhile.

  • I'd be on the SAHM board arguing about pouches. ;)

Serious answer: I'd probably have more mom friends. It's been really hard to meet other moms when all the Mommy & Me groups meet at 10am on a weekday.

Then again, even PT work wasn't enough for me (I lasted five months before asking to return to FT!) so I'd probably be job hunting. I'm kind of obsessed with my career.
