Diaper/pull up at night time/activities?

I'm am going to start training dd next week. Did you still keep a diaper or pull up on your child at night, or does it delay the process? Also, she will be going back to an hour long dance class the beginning of September. Should I keep a diaper on her in case of accidents since it will be less then a month that she has begun training?

Re: Diaper/pull up at night time/activities?

  • Most kids still need a diaper/pull up when sleeping for at least some time after potty training. Overnight readiness is physiological and eventually happens, it's not something you can train. If PTing is successful she shouldn't need a diaper for any daytime activities a month after the fact. Good luck!

  • As PPs said, a diaper at night/naps is normal, but having her wear one during activities will probably confuse her and delay the process

  • Just make sure to take her potty before dance class and she'll be fine.
  • I agree with people that once you start underware during the day you need to always do it. Night time and nap time can take longer to do. My DD3 got the daytime but the night was a lot harder -- some kids bladders just aren't big enough to hold it for that long.
  • We night trained our kids at the same time as day training.  Once we put on the first pair of underwear we never put another diaper or pull up on, day or night.  Of course that means more trips to the bathroom, including waking them to take them at night every 2-3 hours.  But they were fully potty trained in about a week, with occasional accidents.

If you choose to use the pull up/diaper, I think daytime use would be confusing so just use it at bedtime or nap time.
