I love having a couple great fitting blazers, they easily dress up an otherwise plain or more casual look.
I also always make sure I have a great pair of comfy flats. I'm not really a shoe person so plain black is what I go for.
@al-e Where do you find your blazers? I've never bought one because I feel like they make me look manly!
@Joy2611 That is the way I am with belts. I would love to be able to wear belts, and I love them on other people. I just can't get them to work for me!
Gray dess pants. They go with everything! I get most of my clothes from LOFT and I'm pretty sure they give an extra discount to teachers.
@jefa621 I loooooove LOFT. I finally convinced myself that it is OK to buy petites. I am super short, and just started wearing clothes that actually fit me.

I second the blazers!!! I'm obsessed with blazers/jackets and find most of mine at White House Black Market. They almost always go on sale so I constantly check the website for good deals.
I try to keep my whole wardrobe just staples, because they are easy to mix and match. Personally, I try to stay away from prints (too trendy, go out of style fast), unless I just really like it.
Black pumps, nude pumps, black peep toes, one fun pair of heels, plain flats
Black pencil skirt, and maybe a couple other fun skirts
classic dress pants
Plain shirts in every color that can be dressed up or down lol
sweaters, cardigans, blazers, cropped blazers
belts for the waist area
One or two good pairs of jeans
This is pretty much my whole closet lol. I do have a few fun, more trendy things like skirts to wear over leggings, but I know they will not be in style forever so I'm not too attached to them.
I pretty much go for black pants, black capris, black pencil skirts. I do like prints for tops, because I think that it just makes outfits more interesting. For me a black tank/cami is a staple. I wear a lot of the open ( flyaway) sweaters that tend to be a little longer over my black tanks. I usually get 1-2 new pairs of jeans for fall. I think a pair of black heels & a pair of black flats are also staples. I also love my black riding boots. It's cold where I live, so during the winter I wear my black riding boots over my black straight leg/ somewhat skinny pants. Button up blouses are a big trend now right now, so I think a few different colors/ prints of those would make great fall go to pieces. I like Ann Taylor & Express, but I usually get better deals at New York & Company and their pants fits me really well.

I'm all about good dress pants. I love the express for their dress pants. They fit me perfectly. I like Ann Taylor and the loft for shirts and dresses. I just don't like their pants they don't fit me right. I agree cardigans and diff tanks you can dress them up or down. They are so versatile.
Editor pants from express... The only petite pants that look right on me. I'm also a big fan of blazers, I have found some really cute ones at forever 21. They run loose, so they are not "interview" style blazers, but I wear them over a sheath dress or with slim pants for a business casual look.
@packerfan4life Love your name I am a Packer's fan since birth! @sheenaro I looked at Forever 21 yesterday, but I just got overwhelmed. Haha I didn't see many blazers though!
I went to Loft yesterday because they had 60% off sale items. I shop there more than I should Got a super cute long sleeved tshirt and a dress for $25! I love Loft for work clothes. The teacher discount doesn't hurt either!

I love White House Black Market jackets. I have also found that Nanette Lepore makes beautiful black jackets and they are often on sale.

Re: NTTGPR: Wardrobe Staples
A black pencil skirt--you can dress it up or down. It's proven to be incredibly versital.
I can't live without my cardigans--I have them in so many colors. I love layering pieces.
