Any moms done vbac or attempting it?

I am hoping my doc is open to vbac for me. I ended up in csection with ds after I was induced. In hind sight I wonder if letting me go naturally would have changed the outcome.

Re: Any moms done vbac or attempting it?

  • I will be attempting one.  DS didn't tolerate labor well and had his cord around his neck.  Ended in emergency C/S when his HR went over 250.  Hoping this time to have a med free VBAC.

  • I am curious to see if my doc would let me, I have had 2 c sections already. The first I labored for wayyy to long after an induction and the 2nd I have placenta previa and scarring concerns on top of her being breech.

  • Me! I really, really would love a vbac and much quicker recovery, especially since I want to be back up and running with my rambunctious DD ASAP!!!

  • I have had 2 c-sections and an abdominal surgery so I am not sure if a vbac is an option, but I would love to have one. The recovery is so long and miserable with c-sections

  • I will be (probably).   I was induced last time (overdue) and then he ended up being sunny-side up and it caused my cervix to swell back to 8 (from 10) after we started pushing.

My DR is open to VBAC.  I think our plan is to attempt VBAC if I go into labor naturally and it's "favorable".  If I don't go into labor we'll schedule a RCS for the week after my due date.  If my water breaks but I'm not going into labor or whatever,or conditions are "unfavorable to be successful,  then we'll just do the RCS.  I still have some questions for my doctor at our next appointment, but that's the direction we're thinking about going.

  • My dr said I have the choice of a vbac or c/s. I'm just on the fence about it. I mean if it will end in a csection anyway, I'd rather just have a scheduled one. I gotta do some research.

  • I tried so hard to have one with #2 but went to 42 weeks with zero progress so had a RCS. This is the same reason for the 1st (no progress, overdue, failed induction). DH thinks I'm crazy but I'm going to try to have a VBA2C. I found a doctor who has no issues with them so really want to try again to see if I can finally have a baby without being cut open!

  • I am! I was a failure to progress after being induced for low fluid at 41w2d. Hospital is super pro vbac.

  • Yup, this will be my 2nd vbac.

the biggest thing for success:  Find someone with a high VBAC success rate.  NOT ALL OB'S are as supportive as they seem at 10wks.  At 35 weeks they say "can't be big baby, cant be over 40 weeks, etc etc etc."

My 2nd baby (the vbac) came at 42weeks, and she was 9lbs.  I had her with a midwife who was 100% supportive.

Join your local ICAN chapter to find the truly supportive OB's.  We have one here that people drive from other states to VBAC with.

  • I'm thinking about it.  Micah was breech so I had a section.  Post op was OK until about a week afterwards, ended up with a huge infection.  That hurt more than the section.  I will be seeing an OB that will do VBACs, but will see how things go.  With my history of loss I'm very intolerant to risk to the baby.
Me and my Kiwi, both 38.  We struggled with RPL and were blessed with Micah.  I'm a full custody stepmom to Ethan!

this is what I'm thinking too. I need to talk with my midwife but I'd like to at least go into labor naturally and then if I end up with an rcs then so be it...

  • i REALLY want a vbac this time! I don't see why not. I know my dr does them and really the only reason I had a c/s last time was because it was twins and one was positioned transverse. But I did go into labor on my own with them before my c/s and handled it very well I think!

I haven't had a c-section but I had uterine surgery in 2012 so I'll be treated like a vbac. My OB said because they didn't cut too much into my uterine wall it looks good, but I need to make sure the other drs in the practice are also on board because someone else might be on call that day. I was more focused on getting to a heartbeat the first appt but now I have lots of questions.

  • I would love to have a vbac but I have had 3 c sections and am so scared that something would go wrong I haven't talked to my dr yet about it.
  • Am I the only one scared to even try a vbac? My c-section went great and I was walking the following morning. I cleaned it right and used a blow dryer to dry it and it healed great (plus I'm overweight which makes infection a higher risk). I have a few friends who's recovery from their vaginal took longer.... I must be the minority for sure  :-??

I'm with you lol. My first was scheduled due to partial previa and like you I think I healed great, was walking the next day.

  • I am on the fence. I had a very very difficult labor last time (induction due to pre-eclampsia starting), 34+ hours of labor that ended in an emergency c. It was incredibly emotionally exhausting and I don't think I could handle it again. My dr is very pro vbac so at this point, he says I should try for it (even though the calculator said I only have a 52% chance of success). If things head in the direction they did with my first, I won't be given the option. I had some major post complications due to being in labor so long. They also discovered that I had pregnancy induced heart damage so a stressful labor would not be good.

I also had an easy recovery (physically) from the c. I am not sure what to think and have been looking for more positive vbac stories. Most are so different from mine that I don't know what to think.

What is this calculator you speak of?
    :-??
And whats up with you ladies bouncing back from a csection the day after? For days I couldnt sit up without my dh picking me up!
My midwife isnt insured for vbacs I dunno what ill do.

My first child was a nightmare to deliver progression was slow and he wouldnt turn.
My second was having issues with heart rate dropping at every contraction. Also both were 3weeks early.

Should I stick with my midwife that I love or switch to someone for a vbac? With my history would you attempt it ?
  • It was something the dr did - a program on the computer. He entered in all of these factors (age, reason for previous c, progression previously, I don't even remember all of them) and then it spit out a percentage. Apparently some dr built it with past data. Obviously not perfect, but it was interesting to see.

But honestly, I had the c at 8:30 pm and was walking with assistance at 2:00 am and on my own when I got up that morning. The only issue I had was being able to easily sit up on my own out of bed for a couple of weeks.

Have you had 2 c-sections? I know my dr does not like to do more than 2 and is adament that if we want a 3rd (which we don't), he wants me to do a vbac.

The one we used in the office had more questions but this is something to start.

  • I had my c at 530 am and was walking by 2pm with help. Next day I was fine. I just really want to experience a vaginal delivery. I also blame the induction and c for poor milk production. I could be wrong but i just don't think my body was ready to give birth.

  • I'm also leaning towards trying for a VBAC this time. I had a c section with my first because she was breech. Honestly I'm nervous about it but I know it will be super hard recovering from surgery and taking care of a toddler and it would be hard to not be able to pick her up for 6 weeks

  • As much as I want one, the docs are saying no.  This is why:

#1- DD was over 10 lbs
#2- I didn't go into labour on my own
#3- when I finally was in labour, I did not dilate well. Only got to 5.5 cms
#4- even after over 1 hours of labour, only getting to 5.5 cms, DD did not engage and was still at -2 station.

Looks like a RCS for me :(

  • Not being negative here, but a vaginal birth doesn't necessarily mean you'll heal faster! I went 26 hours in labor with my daughter, eventually pushed her out and tore 4th degree! That's through the anus and into the underlying pelvis muscles. It's actually recommended I have a c section this time because if the same thing happens again it could make a slew of issues like fecal incontinence, etc. I realize not every woman experiences a tear that bad but I was not healed for 8 months post partum. BMs still hurt at that point and we couldn't have sex. It was too painful stretching the scar tissue. Thankfully I'm pretty much back to normal.. I still haven't decided what I will do with my second.. C section or vaginal. But I mean it could always go either way..
  • Thanks for the calculator I had no idea such a thing existed! :D
    I got a 78% for vbac.

Leanne I totally get that I wouldnt want to v-deliver a 10 lb baby. And no progression is exhausting.

Dude, IDK, I just knew I needed to get moving to take care of the baby. I'm waaaay out of shape too. I never had any surgery before (I'm pretty blessed in that department). I gave birth at the best birthing hospital and one of the top ten hospitals in the nation...maybe it was luck....sorry I thought it was normal.

  • I am planning a VBAC.  I highly recommend going to local ICAN meetings and really researching VBAC vs. RCS, what kind of provider really is VBAC friendly vs. bait and switch, etc.  I love the VBAC Facts Community group on FB.
