Help me with 24months vs 2T sizing?

I am swimming in hand me downs in both 24 months and 2T sizing. I both want to pare down what I have to store and I want to pull it out at the right time. Is there much of a difference or did you find your LO was wearing both at the same time? I have two overflowing large 66qt bins between the two sizes which seems ridiculous, yes? When did you start and outgrow 2T? I know kids are really different so this is a hard question. DS seems to be tall and thin so far, 98th and 25th percentile. I am wondering is I should get rid of a lot of the 24months, it seems to be the same waist size just shorter. He's in a mix of 12month and 18month now. Thanks!

My understanding is that 24 month clothes generally means that it is made to fit a child 18-24 months old. 2T is meant to fit a 2 year old. DD has always been in the 75th percentile for her length and grew out of 2T around 2 1/2 or so.

Honestly, it depends on the brand. In most brands, they are fairly close - if you look at the sizing charts for say, Carters, 24m and 2T overlap a bit on the height/weight they say that size should fit. In general, 24 month will be a touch shorter and have more room in the diaper area.

DD1 started out in 24m, then wore 24m/2T interchangeably for a while. She's tall but has always been skinny, and started wearing 24m about a month or two before she turned 2. She stayed in those sizes for about 9-10 months, I think.

My LO about 6 months in 24 month, 2T clothes before he out grew both. He is roughly 95% in height and roughly 100% plus weight. My LO is currently 26 months and is in 4T-5T shirts and some of the very stretchable shorts, 2T to 3T.

DD is 3 y 2 months and is 50% for height but about 10% for weight. She still fits in some of her 12 month shorts and is mostly in 18 months shorts. For long pants though she will likely be in 3 T this fall for length. For shirt she wears anything from 24 months (they are starting to get a little short now) to XS (I think that is supposed to be 4). Anything I buy now shirt wise I buy a XS because even if it is a little big is doesn't really look huge. But she still fits fine in 2T. It really depends on the clothes as well. She mostly has Carter's and jumping beans from Kohl's. I haven't really noticed a huge difference between 2 T and 24 months. I haven't even bought new clothes for DD this summer. She had shorts from last summer that were way too big that fit now and pretty much all of her shirts still fit. If you have a ton and have space to store it I wouldn't worry about it. It is so hard to gauge what will fit when.

My son wears them at the same time. It seems to me that 2T is slightly longer than 24mo. Otherwise, I dont notice a difference. Some brands only sell one or the other too, so I think they really are interchangeable.

I find that 24 months tend to be wider and shorter, I guess still accommodating for baby fat, while 2T are a bit slimmer and longer.

I think 24 months can only be worn UP TO 24 months. I found that my DS could wear 2T past the age of 2.

I've found 24m seems to be shorter, but both are similar width, however it's really brand dependent. I had some 2t that was shorter than 24m from different brands. It's almost ridiculous to see a rack at resale shop of say, 2T pants, and they are all different lengths.

Anyway, LO fit into both at about the same time. 24m fit better when he initially outgrew 18m but there was a long period when both fit. And he outgrew 24m stuff before 2T but for a period could wear 2T or 3T depending on the item.
