Going home outfit for autumn

Hi! I am currently 30 weeks 5 days pregnant and thinking about what's appropriate as a going home outfit for baby in early October (or late September if he comes earlier than due date). I am a FTM and have noooo idea how to dress baby. Thanks!

I only bought our soon to be dd a cute sleeper to come home in. Since you don't want anything tight on them because the umbilical cord will still be there. I will also bring a mew weight blanket for her.

This really depends on where you live. I'm in ND so that would be different then someone in AZ. you know.

It will be chillier here when dd arrives so fuzzy sleeper it likely will be.. Fancy outfits on a newborn are not as practical as one might think... Sleepers are easiest and comfy

Sleeper! Definetly a sleeper! The fancy outfits are so rediciously on infants. The pants never fit right and the shirts or dresses always ride up and look out of place. We have plenty of time to dress our kids up. Just let them be comfortable and cozy in a sleeper for the first few weeks or months.

I didn't really think about the umbilical cord. (Ftm strikes again lol)
I had a few outfits I was considering but they are pants and a button up sweater type thing with a onesie underneath.
Would a onesie irritate the cord too much...plus the band on the pants..even if I could pull it above or below the spot?
I need some experience on this! ;-)

Edit: the outfits I was considering are very comfy. All cotton sweats type materials.

When DS was born, we brought him home in a onesie (we lived in Hawaii at the time). It didn't irritate the cord at all. He pretty much lived in onesies for a while! I wouldn't put pants on a newborn though. 1. The band will probably rub and 2. For as much diaper changing as I remember, the pants would get frustrating to keep taking off and putting on, making sure not to rub on the cord.

As far as this time around, DD will come home in a sleeper, a zip up one of course because I cannot stand the million tiny snaps on the snap-up ones!!

Agreed. I hate all the tiny snaps. I didn't think about it much with #1 until she was a few months old in the middle of the night cursing at all the snaps. Then I forgot about it again with this one when I started buying clothes. I do have about 5 snap sleepers, but the rest are all zippers and will be from now on.

Okay! Thank you so much for the advice! I didn't even consider umbilical cord! I live in Philadelphia, PA so fall can get pretty chilly.

DS came home in a sleeper (September in New England). I plan on doing the same this time (October in New England).

I'm in Cleveland Ohio so the weather is very unpredictable lol. I'm bringing baby home in a sleeper and have a small jacket picked out just in case, Her sleeper says Little Sister on it and our son (4) has a matching Big Brother shirt he picked out to wear that day too since family is meeting us at home and there will be lots of pics I went with something cute this time. Our son came home in just a onesie and pants because he had to wear a snow suit (it was the week before Christmas).

May I also suggest packing not only a newborn outfit, but an 0-3 outfit just in case. My sister had an outfit all picked out and ready to go but it didn't fit my niece when they were being released so I had to run to her house quickly and grab something else. It totally ruined her idea of how the baby would come home but we never thought of it. Honestly I think the NB outfit just shrunk when she washed it but just in case I'd pack a spare!!!

It depends on the climate where you live. I'm in Texas so even being due in October the weather could be very cold or very hot. We have made sure to buy newborn and 0-3 month clothes in both warmer and cooler styles just because the weather is unpredictable from one day to the next. DS was born in October as well and we brought him home in a one piece short sleeved outfit because it was pretty warm outside.

Since it gets chilly in the fall for you I would make sure baby is in something comfortable and warm. Make sure to pack a small blanket in case it drops to colder than you expect while you are in the hospital.

Just a cute footed sleeper will do the trick. Ds was born late January and it ended up being quite a warm day. My hospital also gives cute hand knitted hats, so he wore that home too. Anything too bulky or blankets aren't safe.
