Diaper Brand???

First time parent! HELP! Huggies or Pampers??? Or store brand??? How do I know which to purchase? Which is best? Lol, created a registry with my mom today but was overwhelmed! Almost drowned in the diaper isle! How do you choose?! Aren't they ALL the same???

Re: Diaper Brand???

  • Get a few packs of the same size diapers like ones and get different brands then decide from there :)

  • I have learned that Huggies leaked every time. Especially with boys. My favorite brand is Luvs. I've never had a problem with Luvs, they are equivalent to Pampers in my opinion.
  • My friend told me they liked the huggies when their daughter was first born but after that they moved to pampers. She said the huggies ones always smelt like pee and the pampers ones had a light scent to them so they didnt stink. Probably personal preference but I'll probably try what she tried!
  • (I'm a FTM too, so I don't know how helpful this is), but a lot of times it depends on your baby. Some work for some babies, some have leakage.

As a generality, I have heard more people say that huggies leak, and pampers are pretty good. The best things I have heard is about store brands, specifically SAMs club (I think). You'll end up with an assortment from your shower, probably. Then you can figure out what works best with your baby.

  • Pampers swaddlers was the best for my daughter at the younger baby stage, then eventually moved up to huggies as she became 6-12 months or so as she started to crawl/walk, it's really what fits best on your baby so just try a certain kind then switch if its not for your baby.
  • You will have to try a few brands out. We started DS with pampers because that's what people gave us. You are changing diapers so often when they are little and they aren't moving a ton, I don't think the brand matters as much. Then as DS got older, chubbier, and moved more, pampers started to leak. We ended up (and still use) being fans of kirkland Costco diapers. They fit him the best and we have the fewest amount of leaks with them. But I know friend's who had bad luck with them.

  • I prefer pampers, or luvs.
    Huggies always seemed to leak...

But of course, if I see a great deal on Huggies I would scoop them up. Especially in the early months, you change their diapers so much anyways the brand doesn't really matter.
  • We had a lot of luck using Pampers with DS. No leaks at all. I've heard good things about the Target ones so I might try them this time around.

  • Whatever's on sale! lol
I like Huggies, they seem to fit better for my babies, but i'll use Pampers & Luvs if I can get a good deal on them. Not a fan of the Walmart or RiteAid Brand though...
Try buying newborn Huggies & newborn Pampers and try them out yourself :)
  • I use huggies with my girls, they never leak unless its time to move up a size. We used pampers swaddlers in the beginning and then they didnt work out so well for us. Didnt like pampers in the bigger sizes. Some of the generic are not great, but like people have said above you will really have to try out a few different types. If people give you diapers at your shower that makes it really easy to do.
  • Really have to try to see how it goes for you. However, between remembering from how things went with my younger siblings (11-12 year age gap between me and them), and then seeing for myself what happened with DD, in all three instances the store brand diapers we got from Wal*Mart or the grocery store were worse about leaking than the name brands. Huggies does seem to be leaking more at the edges with DD while Pampers and Luvs haven't had the same issues. However, we still alternate between the three brands, just depending on what's on sale. However, there are some other moms I've talked to who swear by the store brands and won't touch anything name brand, so it's just all dependent on how things go.

  • Both my kids couldn't have anything with a scent (Huggies, live, pampers). They both broke out in horrible rashes. I really like the swaddlers for newborn size, especially as a FTM, the wetness indicator is great. As they grew we switched between Walmart, target and SAMs club brands. Try different stuff out and see what works.

  • I have always preferred Pampers (the Swaddlers Sensitive) as DD would get diaper rash pretty easily as an infant. The Pampers Dry Max was a disaster for us -- it gave her a weeping, bleeding rash. I have heard that happening fairly frequently if your child has sensitive skin. Of course, you won't know this till you try out a few types and see what works best.

Now I use what is on sale since she can tolerate more on her skin. Huggies tend to be cheaper, I find...and Luvs is the cheapest in a pinch but I mostly use those in the diaper bag. I did use Earths Best for a while if you want an eco option that isn't too pricey.

Huggies leak with girls too. Nothing else leaked that bad for us.
  • I plan on using Honest Co., if they don't work we'll try Nature Babycare and 7th Generation.
  • We used pampers swaddlers before we switched to cloth. On the occasional day he wears sposies, we have him in luvs.

  • We used the Pampers Swaddlers for the first year or so. When he outgrew those, we experimented with several different brands to find what worked and was cheapest. We ended up using Luvs after that.

  • I've used pampers with all of my kids, boys and girls alike. Just try out different kinds and see what works best for your LO...every baby is shaped differently.
  • Totally depends on what works for your baby, what you like, and what your budget is. We liked Pampers Swaddlers when DD was really little. But didn't like them as she moved into the bigger sizes. We switched to Seventh Generation to avoid the added chemicals (buy them through amazon mom, or at HEB or Whole Foods) and have been really happy. In a pinch I get Huggies from the store and they are just fine as well.
