can't keep up bfing?

Hi ladies. Last day and a bit i feel like lo is on my boobs nonstop. Sore. Tired. Frustrated. Im contemplating adding formula to the mix although ive been trying to hold off as long as possible. Do they get a 4 mnth growth spurt? Which formula do u use and why? Feeling guilty about 'giving up', although i still plan on bfing as much as i can. Any thoughts?

  • I wouldn't supplement just yet. I've been told by my LC that your supply should increase with all of that nursing. Have you tried any solids? I bf and we just started solids because she has been a frequent nurser too and the pedi suggested adding in a meal, we did and no more constant nursing

  • I'm in the same boat the last couple of days. DS was up every 2-3 hours last night. I never feel full these days and DS seems hungry all the time. I sure hope all this feeding helps boost my supply soon. It is becoming a bit disheartening.

  • I personally would not supplement with formula yet. Sounds like your LO is going through a growth spurt. If you supplement with formula, then you'll be telling your body not to make that extra milk and then your supply will never catch up. I'd try to give it a few more days if you can! Fingers crossed it gets better soon.

  • U ladies r great..reminding me about supply and demand! Yesterday was a little easier and i think a growth spurt is in full effect :)
  • I think 4 months is also when your breast milk stops being hormone driven and becomes more supply driven. Perhaps baby is nursing more to get your supply where it needs to be for this change? Keep up the good work.
  • hang in there - you've made it this far and that was the hard part.  At 6 months breastfeeding becomes "easy".
