Holding bottle

A can hold his own bottle, but rarely does. If I give it to him he will drink it for a little then throw it down. So usually I hold it and feed him. Sometimes I give him drinks out of a cup. if i give him a sippy, he throws it after a min also. He'd rather play than eat if he's got to do all the work apparently. I've only got him to drink a bottle once or twice by hisself.

Anyone else still holding LO and feeding them?
 Do they hold it?
Drinking out of sippy cups or something else?
Any tips on how to do a switch over?

Re: Holding bottle

  • Benjamin is the same. Can hold his bottle and will for a few minutes but then let's go and I hold it. He's good with the sippy cup. I have to take it away from him because he'll drink way too much water too fast and spit it back up.

I have to say I quit with the sippy for a while because he loves to hold it upside down ( and his bottles) and watch it drip or pour out. I need to try some more. I've been trying with straw cups some though.

  • I honestly haven't been trying very hard on a sippy or straw cup. He'll hold his own bottle if he has to, but he likes to throw it pretty quickly and go play instead. Usually I'll just hold him in my lap and then he'll hold it himself.

Try the tommy tippy sippy cup. I love it. Doesn't spill unless the mouthpiece is pushed up against something. So he can hold it upside down and nothing will spill.

  • I wish LO would! I enjoy the cuddle time but it doesn't let me do things I need to do, like clean! Buuuuutttt when I'm feeling lazy its a great excuse to DH. Lol :\"> seriously, it's time consuming.........

  • V can hold his own bottle and has been doing it for quite a while.....but only for everyone but me! If I feed him he refuses to hold it!

Definitely a mind of his own!

  • O has been feeding herself at DC since 4 months. I wasn't pleased when I found out they were letting her at 4 months and asked them to hold her. Around 6 months I started letting them again.

  • F really only holds his own bottle.  He's not a fan of letting me hold it, but he will still take a break sometimes and then come back to it.  I just kind of let him do what he wants with it.

For sippy cups, I have to hold it or he won't get anything.  He'll just throw it.

DC encourages them to hold their own, so Asa can, and does, if lying on the floor propped on a boppy pillow (him, not the bottle). He will drink the whole thing in one sitting too if not distracted. However, I hold him while home, and he lets me hold his bottle for him. For now I like that he can do it himself, but mamma likes the bonding time :)

  • Z can hold his own bottle and will hold it the entire time if he's tired. If he's not tired, he'll drink about half and then start playing with it. Apparently it's great fun to grab the nipple and sling the bottle around by it or shaking it up and getting formula everywhere. He won't really hold or use the sippy cup though. he'll take a drink and then throw the cup.  I think the reason is because it's so hard to get anything out of the no spill Avent one we have. I took the limiter out and he actually drank from it but of course has no idea how much to put in his mouth so he spits the water back out cause he got too much. so off to experiment with another cup or a faster flow one.

This is pretty much us. No DC, but when I lay him back with a pillow under his head and he's in the right mood he will hold and drink it. He's only finished it a couple times with out throwing it and playing instead. I enjoy the cuddles and stuff, but at the same time there's times I'd like to clean or do something like bills!! Lol. I will miss it very much once he does it alll by himself.
