Success after IF

Anyone done low or mini stim IVF?

I am still seriously debating this whole IVF to freeze my eggs scenario.  One of my biggest concerns is whether with my DOR/very low AFC (~4-5) I will be able to get any (or enough to feel comfortable postponing TTC #2 for a few years) grow to 5 day blasts in one cycle.  At ~$15k+ a pop, I really can't see doing more than one cycle.  Plus, I'm worried about how I am going to respond to the meds--i.e. how miserable they will make me--as I seem to be really sensitive to hormonal changes/fluctuations.  I started looking into low and mini stim IVF.  The idea behind it is that you just use clomid or femara to stim instead of injectable meds. It is about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost and there is minimal meds cost. However, typically only a few eggs are retrieved a cycle...but if I'm already starting out with so few eggs anyway, I wonder if it will even make a difference. My other thought process is also that I've done Clomid before and even though it made me sort of crazy, my thought process is honestly that maybe the devil I know is better than the devil I don't know.  Has anyone done or tried this?  Did you have any success?

  • Edit: That should be IVF to freeze embryos.

  • My FET cycles were called mini-stim, but we did use injectables, just a much lower dose.   Had they been cycles with retrievals, I don't think we would have had much success.  The first round showed 8 mature follicles, but based on my E2 levels, half of those were probably empty or crappy eggs.  2nd time they stimmed me even slower and we only got 1 mature follicle.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I had severe wicked reactions to clomid, ranging from the normal clomid crazies and hot flashes that had me ripping of my clothes wherever I stood, up to vision changes, vertigo, and ending up in the hospital over 4 different Cycles. I took femara 3 times with zero adverse reactions. I know that has nothing to do with Ivf, but just wanted you to know that you can react differently to them bc they are different types of drugs. I would think similar could be said of injects, but don't know for sure.
