Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Help me, help my baby sleep!

I don't know if it's teething (we have 0 teeth as of now) or an ear infection, or general fussiness. But I can't get Easton to go to sleep anymore. He cries and screams. I've tried just about everything, and no one in our house is getting any sleep. We're a zombie during the day, and crabby! Not to mention, it's horrible for my milk supply.

We have a set routine. Bath, book, dinner & bed. We've done the lotions, teething tablets, Motrin, rocking, pacing, CIO for like 10 minutes ( I can't take anymore than that) Ferber method...

Anyone have tricks? Tips? A baby they want to adopt? I'm desperate.

  • I finally stopped looking at the clock, stopped putting him down. Now we just hang out together and he falls asleep at my boob sometime in the evening. it isn't great, but I am way more sane.

  • I've heard this can be a sign of separation anxiety.  There are nights that Arlo does the same thing, no matter what we try.  I end up bringing him to bed with me so we can both get some sleep and then move him into his room when he wakes for his next feeding.  It doesn't happen very often, so it hasn't effected his sleep habits at this point.

Like PP said, I've also stopped watching the clock so closely.  I just watch for when he is tired and start his routine then, he almost always goes down without a problem.

BTW, your son is amazingly cute!  What a handsome little man!

  • If it really is teething I recommend Motrin and also using the oragel three times per day. It really made a difference. The Motrin really took the edge off of it and the crankiness. Also, are you sure your DC isn't hungry? Is he getting enough? he might be going through a growth spurt. I also reverted back to the good old days of doing a lot of shushing, rocking, bouncing on the bouncy ball.
