aren't you amazed?

I watch this little toddle monster learning and doing new things and I am just  in awe. Today, Fifi used a sign and word that I haven't shown her in many weeks. She signed and said "please" when she was asking for more tomatoes during dinner. What's cooler is that she used it in the right context. Sometimes I think she knows more then she lets on to and then just springs something new on me just to keep me amused.
What has your little one done recently that made you go "holy crow! My kid did THAT?"

  • I am amazed every day at what Carter understands.  We can tell him to pretty much get anything and he knows what it is and will go and get it.  Or if we read books I will ask him to point out objects and he usually always knows what is what.  His language is really sporadic. Sometimes he will repeat us, and other times its just gibberish.

I can't believe how much his little mind and body have come since a year ago!

  • DDs favorite game is to point at things and say "da?" to which I respond with the proper word and she tries to repeat it. Lately, she'll just fire back the word to me, even though I've never heard her say before, but it's parroted back clear as a bell!! It's mindblowing.

My DS is starting to repeat things we say, as well. It's not particularly clear what he is saying, but it is obvious he is trying. It is so cute and exciting to hear.

  • I may have shared this already bit the other day ds was playing I'm the clean laundry and pulled out a diaper and signed airplane, I was confused, then I realized that the diaper had airplanes on it. Same for this morning he signed airplane and I realized we could hear one flying over the house...when I said good job, airplane, he started clapping as if to say to me, you got it!
  • I am completely fascinated by how fast they learn and remember things at this stage. DD is what they classify as a "precocious talker". Her vocabulary and ability to use words in the right context amazes me on a daily basis. Yesterday I was late getting lunch ready because DH and I were installing a new chandelier in the dining room and lost track of time. After whining for a few minutes DD yelled "hunger"! I was shocked because I've only used the word "hungry" in passing, but never really tried to teach it to her.

  • I have noticed this a lot in the past couple of weeks too.  I think now she may have been doing it longer and I didn't catch on!  Now she looks at me like duh that is what I have been saying!  :)

  • D was amazed yesterday morning because he would tell her to go get a specific toy and she would do it. She will also go get a book if you tell her to as well. What amazes me is that she has NO FEAR! She will climb the windows, off and on the couch, the tv stand, anything she can. She may have no fear but she scares the crap out of me!
