Lightweight/small convertible seat for air travel

We do a lot of air travel and we buy DD a seat because I like to have her strapped in at least for take-off and landing, and that way I don't have to risk our seat being beat up while checked, and we have it to use at our destination.  Our infant seat was small and light enough to travel with easily, but I don't want to drag around our heavy convertible seats that we have in our cars, so I'm looking at buying a smaller and lighter weight convertible seat for air travel.

I'm comparing the ones that the Lucie's list blog recommends for air travel - each is under 10 pounds.  They are the Cosco Scenera, Evenflo Tribute, and Safety 1st OnSide Air.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these seats?  I'm interested in comfort level and ease of installation on the plane and in rental cars.  Thanks!

Yeah, I do want to be careful on cost since the seat won't be used much.  All the seats I'm looking at are under $100.  I'm fine with a relatively lower weight limit, but want to make sure it's something she's comfortable in for most of a 6-hour flight, and that I can install it easily.

  • I feel like I would go with what looks more comfortable and the cheapest.

  • I saw something at BRU last time I was there, its a rolling rig (kinda like those wire shopping carts) for carrying around the carseats?  seemed like it was made for lugging the thing around airports. but I have no experience with it.

I actually already ordered this :)  It's called the Gogo Kidz Travelmate and gets really good reviews.  It's not cheap, but fits all kids of convertible carseats and boosters, so I feel like we can use it for awhile and with multiple kids.

  • We have the cosco scenera for my car, because my bigger one wouldn't fit properly in my car. A does very well with it. It gets the job done and I got it for $40 at walmart.
