Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Wake Times and 3-2 Naps

I have 2 questions:

DD is 5 months old as of Sunday. I'm curious is my DD the only LO whose WT is shorter than what is suggested? https://docs.google.com/document/d/11GHo4keUb2TVJUlSL1kD6HQcEgaNFBmzoQoOzcpcyas/mobilebasic?authkey=CPXE1bsO&pli=1&hl=en

She's usually tired, and gives me sleep cues after an hour from waking up in the morning and then after the first nap her wake times are 1.5 hour. After the third nap to bedtime sometimes we could go 2 to 2.5 hours.

Also, I have been reading that by 6 months they go down to 2 naps. How does this work? How do I know she's ready to take 2 naps instead of 3? Do I have to wait until her wake time between naps increase in length?

TIA!

Re: Wake Times and 3-2 Naps

  • We're transitioning as we speak.  We'll see how she does-she's definitely at point where she's not quite tired enough for the third nap by the time it comes around but if we put her down any later it'll interfere with bed time. we might temporarily moved up bed time until she's able to handle the awake time

  • This is DS exactly and he will be 5 months on the 16th. He wakes at 6:30 and is already fussy and ready for a nap again by 7:30. Of course by then I've had a pot of coffee and am ready for the day lol! Today, for instance, up at 6:30 and nap times have been an hr at 7:30. Then up at 8:30 and asleep again by 10 for 2.5 hrs! He woke at 12:30 and back to sleep by 2:15. And the kid is STTN lol. I know I shouldn't complain but all my friends babies are awake so much and I can't help but worry. Of course pedi says to enjoy it but I'd love to enjoy my son too. Especially before returning to work in the fall (I'm a teacher). But do you dare wake a sleeping baby to get him on a better nap schedule?

  • this is exactly my 5 month old schedule too!  he wakes up at 6:30am and is back to sleep by 7:30am then up at 8:30am and back to sleep by 10am. as the day goes on his wake time increases but he can still never be awake longer then 2 hours without starting to get loopy.
