Restaurant birthday parties

So, if you are having LO's first birthday party in a restaurant, do they still get a smash cake there? Or would you do it at home privately? Skip it all together? How does that work? We are in the middle of moving so we don't want to host anything at home or anything really time consuming. Honestly we are planning on just inviting my mom, sister, nephews, and my BIL and SIL out for lunch & cake. How do you handle the cake in that situation?

    I plan on plopping him on the table with the cake, or putting a plastic tablecloth under his high chair

    I would probably do it at the restaurant and bring an extra set of clothes just in case he gets really messy.

    We are doing the smash cake at home with lunch so we can do bath right after. Then we are going to dinner and that's more for the adults. I guess it's not really a party though so I don't know if this helps.
