Waiting list

So I'm trying to get DD1 into preschool. I just found out that we are number 1 on the wait list to get her in for the January session. Anyone have experience with wait lists? Do you think we have a pretty good chance of getting in?

Re: Waiting list

  • We were on a wait list for DS's DC (before he was born) and then for preschool when he was three.  Both times a spot opened up for us.  If you are #1 on the list it means only one person has to drop out for you to get in so I'd say the chances are pretty good.  I would check in periodically to make sure they know you are still interested and see if there is any news.

  • Our top 3 choices all put us on a waiting list, and we've eventually gotten into each of them...you just have to wait :)  One center we were told (last november) that the wait was over a year long, but we just got notified that there would be a spot for us in October. That's about 7 months earlier than they originally said.

  • I think your odds are pretty good, but I'd also make back-up plans.  We've been on 4 wait lists before, gotten in at 2 of them, so there's no guarantee.
  • #1 on the waitlist is a great position, Kids get pulled out, move, change schools so much you will probably get in soon. I hope it works out for you-- good luck!

  • #1 position on a waitlist is great odds.

  • I'd say #1 is pretty good. DS has been on the waiting list at a DC since Feb. He was #52 at that time and last I checked was #25, which I was pretty happy with. Hoping he gets in around the end of the year/beginning of next year.
  • Yes but call like once a month to check in..unless they seem annoyed by that. If something opened up now, for example, they could fill it with someone else if their preferred start date is earlier than January (if they would allow someone to start mid session).
  • DS was on a waitlist at 3 places.  All said it'd be about a year and all opened up at about the same time ahead of the 1 year mark.  He started today at our #1 choice.  I think most places with waitlists try to underpromise and overdeliver on the time you'll be on it (they certainly don't want to tell you there should be a spot in October but not have one until closer to January).
