Diaper Champ redesign - still recommended?

I had a Diaper Champ for my oldest child and it worked great.   It did start to smell after a couple of years though, which I'd expect.  I was going to replace it with a new one for baby #2, but the online reviews say the redesigned version is terrible.  Thought I'd check in here with new moms to see what you all recommend?  I'd like to avoid the Genie just because of the special bags, but if it's that over a smelly pail, I'll buy the bags.

    I don't know about the redesign. This is the one I have. I love it. I don't find that it smells..I tend to forget to change the bag until it's so full no more diapers will fit. However, now that LO is  on formula and has really terrible poop, I bag those diapers and put them in the can outside. But I put all other diapers and even used to put her breastmilk poop diapers and I never had problems with smell.
