Two hour feeding

Anyone else still feeding every two hours? LO is EBF and my family is making me feel crazy when I say she wants to feed every two hours at two and a half months, but if I try to feed her more at each feed she spits up and if I try to hold her off for longer she screams. Seems cruel to make her scream for food just to make her go longer between feeds. Just hoping other 11wo babies are still feeding this often.

Re: Two hour feeding

  • My LO is 12 weeks and she eats every 2-2.5 hours. She used to actually go about 3 hours but recently she can't wait that long. I think she's going through a growth spurt now. Sometimes she wants to eat again within 90 minutes. I do wonder when they start to space their feedings out a bit because 2 hours flies by!

  • Mine still goes every two hours like clock work. He always gets fussy right at that two hour mark its amazing how they know. I say if they are hungry feed them. My family makes me feel the same way, but I'm the mom here and we know what our babies want. Just do what feels right!!
  • Yup. LO is 14 weeks and EBF and feeds every 2.5-3 hours. My family thinks its nuts that I'm up all night feeding him, but they all had FF babies, so there is a difference.

  • I ebf and feed on demand. LO eats at random times. There has never been a consistent time between feeds for him.

I was wondering if I should space it out more, but the thought of him crying for food breaks my heart. Not sure how to make him be more consistent.

  • My LO is 10 weeks and eats every 2 hrs. Sometimes 1.5 in the evenings. I think it's normal, all babies are different.

  • It's on demand, but a pretty predictable 2 hours. Since he does longer stretches at night I really try to stick to it, to make sure we hit 8-10 feeds.

This, exactly. She's never been consistent with feeding times, except at night (most nights.) Sometimes during the day, she will go 4 hours, sometimes she only goes 1 hour.

  • My EBF baby also eats about every 2 hours during the day. However, I'm having such a hard time with naps with him. How do your days look with eating every 2 hours? I feel with eating, playing, persuading to sleep , he doesn't get a good nap before he's hungry again. Usually it's only about 20 minutes, but I know he's still tired. Just wondering how other moms get naps in.
  • Yes we don't get much play/activity time in before I have to start getting her to sleep again but I am lucky she's a quick feeder...which only adds to everyone's scepticism about her being hungry every two hours. They think I don't feed her long enough. Anyways she does take short naps and just recently started doing one long midday nap. I know she is tired from not napping by the end of the day but it will get better so I just try to get her as much sleep as I can. I have also dream fed her during day naps to extend them. GL but they will get bigger and sleep more.

This is us, too, but she is only eight weeks. I say keep up what you are doing. You and your baby know what you/she needs.

  • 12 weeks here and he is hungry 2 hours on the dot when awake. In the odd case that he actually takes a long nap I may get 3.5 hours at that time.

Same with C, she is pretty unpredictable. I just follow her lead!

  • Yes. We're at about 2-2 1/2 hrs during the day. But 4-6 at night. If baby is spreading out feedings at night, then I think they have to continue to eat frequently during the day to make up for it. Tell your family to back off. Lol

  • Every 2 hours except at night. It is wearing on me. My pedi said his weight gain was good so we could use soothing techniques to get him to go longer between feedings. Once we are over the shots fussiness, I am going to try. Three hours between feedings sounds like heaven. The pedi said up to 4 hours is within range.

DD goes every two hours through the day. Sometimes longer of we are out and about. She'll go every 3 hours at night, possibly 4 if I'm really lucky.

I think every 2 hours is normal for me. I EBF and I've worked out that DD has about 3 ounces per feed which isn't a lot really.

I tried pumping and supplementing with an ounce of expressed breast milk but she's full and just doesn't want it.

ETA: I should add that I feed on demand so sometimes it can be every hour on a hot day or longer.

  • Thanks ladies...that makes me feel way better. It doesn't bother me if she wants to eat every two hours, I just wasn't sure if it should be longer.

NJAZgirl....that's what I intend to do.

  • we were every two hours until about 12 weeks, then he started going for three hour stretches randomly throughout the day, now he is between 2.5 to 3 hours during the day, it happened quick, I thought we would be stuck at the two hour schedule forever.

  • I think it's completely up to the baby. S is 3 months today (13 weeks yesterday) and is still more or less on a 2 hour eating schedule. She gets bottles at school and even with that, she's eating 3-4 oz every two hours in the mornings and then drops down to 2oz or so in the afternoons, but still every 2 hours. She is starting to sleep longer during the nights though so I think all that eating during the day is allowing her to sleep longer at night.
