Standing baby problems...

Now that DD is a standing machine, she doesn't seem to enjoy sitting anymore - at all! DH fights with her every night to stay sitting in the bathtub. Yesterday at the zoo she was trying to stand on the foot plate of her stroller. She hates the shoulder harness straps on the stroller, but now I think I'm going to have to put them back on... Bleh.

Anyone else have a LO that wants to stand in the bathtub though? I'm thinking we need to get a mat or something that makes it less slippery, however I also don't want to encourage the standing in there... It's a catch 22. Oh, and maybe one of those cushy things for the water spout so she doesn't bang her head if she falls in that direction and DH looses his grip on her slippery little self...

I wish I could just strap her down lol!

Re: Standing baby problems...

  • Yup and yup. I bought the duck to keep her contained. I put some toys in it and wash her fast. When she tries to stand I say "all done!" And take her out. She will figure it out eventually.

  • DD does the same thing in the tub. This week, I just got in with here since it was easier than fighting her the whole bath (and our tub area is too narrow for 2 grown adults to try to cram into to contain her). She really enjoyed it, so that's probably what we'll do for now until she's old enough to understand "no" when she tries to stand.

  • Alexandra hated the slippery tub so I got a bath mat. She likes it a lot better now. She also loves standing and hasn't crawled yet, so I'm convinced she will walk first.

  • Yes, DD is trying to stand. I think I'm going to keep fighting with her on it though. I don't want her to get used to standing because ultimately I think it's a hazard. I'm an overprotective ftm, though!

  • Our problem is Connor has no ass. Like, none. His little but is flat as a pancake and as soon as he reaches for something in the tub he slides feet up in the air. The only way to bathe him is with SO holding him under his armpits and me washing him.

  • We just started using the duck tub last night and Morgan loved it!!  She is trying to pull herself up on the coffee table and does something like the yoga pose "downward dog" so I know she's trying to stand up.

  • It sucks. Margo's up all the time on anything she can remotely pull herself up upon, including her 5 & 3 yo sisters!
I keep reminding myself that before we know it, they'll be letting go and walking!

  • Standing and splashing is the only way she will happily bathe (otherwise it is a sponge bath of sorts with a wash cloth). So we have a baby bath tub that we put on the counter infront of the mirror and giving the bath is a two grown up task where we all get a bath. The tub drains into the sink for LO and DH was suggesting showers in our bathroom for LO in the future as she gets bigger (shower surface is less slippery than our actual tub)

  • Killian has been trying to stand in the bath tub for a couple weeks now and I always just sit him back down and tell him "No standing in the bath-tub!" Even though he doesn't understand exactly what I'm saying yet I figure by the time he does, it will be natural. If he tries to stand more than 3 times then I say "All done!" and his bath-toys get put away and the water goes Bye-bye and its off to bed. He's figuring it out, slowly.
