Parenting after a Loss

STM - Infant Stuff Question (Or, more correctly, STM Amnesia - What Am I Missing?)

Okay, maybe its because I'm over 40, maybe its because I'm working like a dog and DS is running me ragged at 22 months, but I am having a heck of a time figuring out what I need to get ready for this new LO.  We had, ironically, just emptied out our basement of pretty much all baby gear about 2 weeks before my BFP so I am at a bit of a disadvantage but I am not sure how much, really.  I lurked on a few other boards but their lists seem way long for those not starting entirely from scratch (but kind of, at the same time).

So here are my thoughts on what I plan to get and what I've got already -- I welcome your opinions or ideas to help me figure out what am I missing?

Clothing:  I bought 10 newborn onesies (DS was 6# and change so I suspect we'll get some mileage out of these); 2 newborn gowns and 4 newborn sleep and plays.  I figure DH or my mom can make a Carter's run after LO is born and go from there with clothes since we got rid of all our stuff from DS and we are Team Green.

Feeding:  I plan to BF. We have a few bottles left from DS, so I will buy a few more and new nipples for all.  I also probably need to buy a pump.  And various BF supplies, assuming BF goes well.

Sleep:  I plan to buy a RNP.  Last time I borrowed an Arm's reach co-sleeper but that is back in use with the original owner.

Parking Spots:  I plan to get a bouncy seat, and we still have a PNP from DS.  For down the road, we still have our Rainforest jumperoo.

Supplies: I need to get newborn size diapers, but we have other diapering accourtrements like lotions, washcloths, soaps, nail clippers and such from DS.  I still have what is probably enough A&A blankets, and some burp cloths and bibs.  And I guess I need a changing pad too.

Carrier & Travel:  We still have our ergo.  I also have a Moby, but that was a total PITA I will probably not try again.  We have DS' infant "bucket" car seat and I believe it is still within its date.  I have the fuzzy cover thing for winter, too.

Other thoughts?  I feel like I am missing things but can't think of what...kind of like STM amnesia where I don't *want* to remember what I had to deal with last time!

  • Swaddlers, hats, breast pads, nursing bras.  A sidenote, the RNP is the best invention on the planet!!

  • If your going back to work a SnG is a must to get the 2 LOs in. I also like Carter's Lap Pads for under little heads to catch the spit up and drool...to keep from washing sheets all the time. We have a Mamaroo this time and I love it. Keeps DS2 occupied while I tend to DS1.

  • Mostly your list looks pretty good.

I would add in a double stroller of some sort as well, for when you dont want to wear #2 and you want #1 contained.

  • I think your list is pretty complete. I would probably add another monitor/camera if you used one with DS.

I think PP mentioned nursing pads/creams/bras/tanks.

  • Your list looks great to me, with just a couple things missing maybe...do you have a little baby bathtub or bath seat or something of that nature?  One of our must haves was a sound machine for white noise for the nursery.  We have a homedics that cost like $20 I want to say.  I can send you the link if you are interested.

  • Lanolin for your nipples! I was shocked at how sore they were the first two weeks with LO#2. I swear, I thought my nips were tough after nursing #1 for a long time but nope!  Other than that, your list looks good. Babies don't need a whole lot in the beginning.

  • Thanks so much, ladies!  The reminder on the stroller is a great one (we have an Uppa Baby Vista and there is a second seat for it so we will probably start with that) as is the nursing supplies and the white noise machine.  DS is still reliant on his at almost 2 :-\"  So I guess we need another one.

Also the extra camera for the monitor - good call. And the baby tub.  That would have been noticed and not in a good way fairly soon.

Thanks again for validating that my old pregnant brain was not too far off.

    Swing? Play mat/activity gym?

2nd Humidifier--if one is sick the other probably will be.

    ETA: Bigger diaper bag?

  • Insurance now covers pumps for babies born after Jan 2013, so you may not have to fork out $$ for it.

Gah!  Damabo and Karen!  Hellllooo, ladies!  And thanks for the responses.  Time is really flying, and panic sort of set in when I turned the calendar to August last week.  I feel like I am a lot more than 34 weeks, physically, but mentally I'm totally back in second tri thinking we still have all this time.   We are SO not ready.  But oh well.  We can wing it.  :\">

ETA: All I wanted was a damnable smiley face but with the gazillion options who knows what I chose.  Anyway.  That was meant to be a smiley.

  • I think it looks pretty good! DD was a champion spitter upper, so we definitely need more footie jammies as she pretty much lived in them, but we did the same thing... team green, and I made a Target run after she was born :D

Echoing PP's recommendation of a Snap n' Go. I loved it because I could clip the bucket seat right in, which was especially nice when she was sleeping, so I didn't have to transfer her.

My favorite carrier for when she was little, and I tried LOTS, was the Baby K'tan. Same comfort level as the Moby, but super easy to put on.

I am so excited for you!!
